I know this is beating a dead horse...but Sid is so embarrasingly bad...he needs to go...you cannot understand him half the time...he makes little if any sense...today is ridiculously bad...everyone knew he would be stumping for Horton...come on Sid...are you kidding me? I admire the job Horton did the last two games...but can you imagine the fan base if he were hired? Sid keeps talking about consistency...consisitency for what? Losing? This program needs a total fresh start...what are we hoping to salvage? Sid's homer attitude has grown so thin it is sickening...we need only look at Gutey...as much I liked Gutey, we could have had Bobby Ross who won a national championship! Sid would have us hire Horton and his horrible head coaching record...as I said, I admire the job he did...but it is time to get someone new...also, I would love just for once to really see Dave Mona call Sid on something rather than try and turn everything into slapstick...just my two cents.

The Fanbase Sucks Already

What sense does it make to use the "fanbase" argument on the worst football program in the Big Ten?

It's already lousy and the Twin Cities media supports the professional teams for some reason?

Who do you want our "Genius" athletic director and president to hire?

Their last pick in the head football coach position didn't last long.

Any of the names mentioned (Mullen, Calhoun, Hoke, Golden, Edsall etc.) would be better...Wahoo - am I assuming you would be fine with Horton?

Sid will push for Horton now, on the off chance that Horton might get hired. That way he's got a cozy relationship with him when he's the new guy. But, trust me, the absolute second a new coach gets hired, Sid will forget about Jeff Horton as fast as you can say the new coach's name.

For instance, remember for one or two days he was steaming mad about Brewster getting fired. He even said would make like difficult for some people at the U in trying to search for a new coach. But, notice it took about one game before Sid started praising Horton and basically forgetting that Brewster was ever the coach here.

Leave Sid alone. He is an ICON and I, personally enjoy his articles. Have since the late '50's.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I truly believe that Horton may deserve a chance. Two straight wins over bowl teams, including a HUGE win over one of our biggest rivals, in a trophy game, against a nationally ranked team. Anyone who says this doesn't look like a completely different team under Horton, is confused. I say give him a year to see what he can do with this squad.

I disagree with Sid 80 percent of the time, but I have to say that I think he's nothing if not consistent. He's an unabashed homer. I don't see how this has changed from 5-10-15-30-50 years ago. Yes, on the radio/tv he's obviously aged and lord only knows who actually writes his columns. But I don't see how what he is saying now is any different, in respect to his core opinions, than it ever has been.

I agree with you on your last sentence on one condition... We all shut up for that year?

Not to worry, Sid is now busy getting cozy Leslie Frazier.

May we also remind ourselves that a big chunk of Horton's losing record comes from his HC position at UNLV, which at the time he was there, was basically a podunk community college with a good basketball team and a stadium 10 miles off campus in the middle of an empty dirt field. UNLV is where football coaches go to die. It's basically impossible to succeed there.

You cannot recruit with a Head Coach that you are "giving a year" to see how he does. Kids won't come here. He did a great job in a really tough spot, but we need to move on.

If want to read something for a sportswriter who makes sense on the topic. Read Mark Craig's column today. Bad teams all seem to have one thing in common, bad defenses. Even Glen Mason preached that years ago. Hiring a defensive genius would definitely be doing something different when it comes to hiring a coach here.
