Sid: It's obvious Maturi is having a hard time finding the right guy for the job

Just embarrassing from Sid.

I almost clicked on the link , but then I realized I would be wasting my time.

Yep, he has the answer for all Gopher football needs. Hire Horton on a two year contract and hire Lou Holtz as some sort of new Director of Football operations.

I think its obvious the media is completely in the dark, save for those who wish to dig(Not Sid/Reusse/Dbag Barrerio or his hawkeye lover/Rosen/any other news sportscaster)
Doogie/MV/the GI folks might have vague hints and tidbits, but the silence is deafening and is forcing the talking heads to make things up or fall back on the easy take of "the search is going poorly".

Sid's Holtz idea is just silly, maybe he'll want Bobby Knight to come and be AD too.
BTW I think it's ok for Sid to stay with his Horton take, at least he has a logical reasoning behind it, but the addition of Holtz is stupid.

"Sid: It's obvious Maturi is having a hard time finding the right guy for the job"

Translation (SidSpeak): Joel isn't giving Sid any inside information so the Arrogant One is PO'd at Maturi.

His brain is on eternal reboot mode at this point. It's always the same answers regardless of the actual questions.

He also said that Joel Maturi is 83 and coaching.

I think the media has really embarassed themselves on this search. Articles like this just reinforce it. They are just hurting the U and making themselves seem petty too.

Maturi probably has had his guy all along and is waiting for their season to be over. Just because we haven't hired someone doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's doing or can't find anybody.

Sid is an old fool that has killed his legacy by these senile statements. Retire already!!

Someone needs to tell Sid that if Mason tried harder he could have won consistently...he acts like Mason was a robot coaching in a vacuum.

It's hard to tell what is going on, but no coach by next Friday and something is up, no coach in two weeks then the program is in deep and no one they were pursuing wants the job. Next two weeks are big.

Silence is a good thing

To me with all the attachs, rumors, speculation and down right assualts on Maturi that are going on, i am thinking the silence Maturi is giving just means he has his man and he is very proud of who it is. If the search was going poorly (As so many speculate) Maturi and others would be either rushing to sign someone or doing a PR campaign to make the job look better. Just look at the "leaks" that Colorado gave because their job was going poorly - they gave a list of great names and then rushed to pull out at "tight-ends coach." Maturi would rush to get someone for us to rally around, if things were going poorly. I truly believe MAturi has his man and that he is confident it is a great hire.

Forgive me, I posted this in another thread, but I think its worth repeating here.

I try to remember that we didn't hire Brewster until January 15, 2007. So, even if the new coach weren't announced until December 15, they will still have a month more for recruiting than Brewster did.

I'd like to get this done as soon as everyone else, but I am not in panic mode (at least not for another 12 days or so). Everyone who should be "in the know" on this process seems to have a quiet confidence about them. I have a good feeling that we have our guy, he's a good one, and we're waiting for the time to be right.

This is a good thing from Sid. Why is that? Because at this point Sid is nearly dead wrong with 95% of the things he writes. Examples: No way Brewster will be fired. No way Childress will be fired, etc...

So, it is like the George Costanza "the opposite" theory in full effect. The fact that Sid says the coaching search is going poorly, invariably means all is well.

The Minnesota season has been over for SIX friggin' days! Maturi is having a hard time? There are still 40 teams playing this weekend and next, including several with viable candidates. Although a particular candidate's team may already be done with it's regular season, no guy is going to leave his team before bowl pairings are set--that's Sunday night.

Maturi has his guy, and has for a while.

We wil know by no later than Tuesday.

It's a good point, but it's also important to remember that Brewster had nothing left to recruit but the pupu platter with basically 3 weeks left before signing day. There are also just over 2 weeks left in the contact period, so we're missing out on that too by not having a coach in place. I don't want to rush just to get a guy in place to recruit (the long term is much more important, obviously), but I also don't want to wait 2 weeks and miss out on the contact period entirely just to save what boils down to 10,000 tickets at 1 game next year. I'd rather it not be Hoke at all, but if it is, hire him 5 days ago, not 12 days from now. It's silly and bush league.

(I know you're not advocating waiting until Dec. 15, GGR, just pointing out how asinine it would be to not have a coach in place by this Sunday or Monday at the latest.)

When someone tells you something is obvious, it often means it really isn't obvious at all. It's a way to make a weak proposition seem stronger.

I would be fine with Hoke. But if they wait until the 15th so sign him it will just be further proof of Maturi's ability to screw things up.

I would imagine he would be thinking about getting raked over the coals by the general population for "throwing away" a half million dollars by not waiting 2 weeks to hire the football coach. Afterall they don't play a game for 9 months.

Actually I wouldn't worry too much if he is indeed having a hard time filling the position. Maybe with media starting to pay some attention to Leach and what appears to be overwhelming fan support for the guy he will be forced to at least talk to the guy if Maturi's A and B list of coaches all say 'not interested'.

I had finally let go of the Leach dream but after the article in the Strib and the polls yesterday I am back on his bandwagon.

The next coach suggestion from Sid will be a dead guy.
