• I’ve been waiting for either the Twins or the Gophers to change the time of their Sept. 1 home game so as to not compete with the Vikings that night. Yes, it’s only a preseason game, but the Vikings’ 7 p.m. game with the Rams will be only their second game at U.S. Bank Stadium. That same night the Gophers open their season against Oregon State at 8 p.m. and the Twins open a homestand vs. the White Sox at 7:10 p.m.

Go Gophers!!

Let's say the Gophers changed their game to 11am (not going to happen) - the % of people that would go to the Gophers game in the morning, take a nap, and then take another nap at a professional preseason game would be nearly non-existent. Also - just go ahead and cancel the Twins game.

Sid must still think they are both in the Metrodome.

This is one of Sid's pet peeves - when 2 or more teams in the Twin Cities have home games scheduled at or near the same time. If I was cynical, I would say Sid is ticked off because he can't watch all the games.

Personally, I will be at a HS FB game on the 1st, so I will DVR the Gophers and watch them later - probably on Saturday. I'll read the box score for the Twins, and I don't give a rats butt about the Vikes' pre-season game, because none of the regulars will play.

talking about it right now on sports huddle. Sid says twins should play in the afternoon. Will talk about it later, in the show, with Dave St. Peter.

The Gophers game time will NOT be changed.... It is on a Thursday people!

Sure. The Twins SHOULD play their game during the day.....but Sid has finally hit the wall if he thinks that it is even remotely feasible for the Gophers to change their game time.

I'm not sure that's really the cynical view.... it would be nice to watch both live.

The only one of the three who probably have any flexibility in the matter at this point is the twins. Due to TV.

Even the twins might not

I really hate the Thursday night 8pm start time .... and the traffic is gonna be killer.

The folks going to the Viking game have their tickets already as part of the season ticket package.
There may be a few fans who might have come to the Gopher game but will stay home to watch both or either games on TV.
As far as the Twins game, does anyone in MN really care?.
I do not see how the conflict will significantly decrease the number of butts in the seats at the Gopher game

The Twin Cities is a major metropolitan area. Why is this even being talked about?

The T-Wolves and Wild play the same night 41 times this coming season.

That's a total of about 35,000 seats or so, about 9.5 miles apart. Probably not a lot of transportation or parking issues between them. The State Fair, Target Field, U.S Bank Stadium and TCF have a few more seats and share a few more potential transportation and parking spot problems.

You do have a great point though.

Sid bitches every time the Wolves and Wild (and Gophers) play on the same night. Which was all his column note was really about.

Hey Sid, it's a pre-season game for the queens. Have them change there game time. I know it's a queen town, but Gophers come first to me.

Queen fans want to get there jollies over the new stadium. The Bengal game looked like a Gopher Spring scrimmage game.Looked like about 10,000 fans in Cincinnati.

I love these games...atmosphere is awesome. I just get there early and get a nightcap after, works great.

I'm with you on this...

Anyone, ANYONE, who would choose an exhibition football game or a baseball game featuring one of the worst teams in league over the Gopher game is a flat out idiot. That is all of you.

You expecting a lot of people around here to be going to the Vikings or Twins game? Get Gopher Hole mixed-up with the Strib? :D

How many teams actually control the date and time of when they play? TV pretty much controls everythng now.

I suspect in CFB they actually have more control. They just go along with it because of $.

I think if the University said "Naw man that's just a bad time for us" they wouldn't have to play at that time. Particularly for a Thursday at 8pm.

I don't think that's true because I believe the B1G dictates that BTN and/or ESPN be able to set start times. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I think they're pretty much stuck for this (not that they'd want to or should move...).

The Twins only have to work with FSN, so not sure how flexible that is (I'm assuming more so since it's regional). In my mind, they'd be the one most likely to benefit from moving it (people doing the "double header" Twins then Vikes/Gophers). Besides, FSN would probably prefer to not compete with both Vikes and Gophers.

I'm not sure it is that absolute. If ESPN chose 11 on move in day at the university that wouldn't fly.

I think the universities and B1G agree to some ranges ahead of time and BTN and ESPN get to make their call within that, but push to shove I bet B1G sides with the universities and wins.

If one of the teams was going to change times, it would most logically be the Twins. It's already a normal part of baseball to play weekday day games anyway. It wouldn't really be that big of a stretch. The only thing preventing them from doing it is annoying people that already bought those tickets and were planning on an evening game. I am a partial Twins season ticket holder (not going to the Twins game that night) and I know I do very carefully avoid day games since it's hard for me to get to them. My guess is no team budges on start time.

That is the correct answer.

It is the Twins & Vikings that start at the same time. The Gophers are an hour later. There should be no transportation problem for the Gophers.

Oh I'd be shocked if anyone moved or even proposed to do so.
