While Gophers athletic director Norwood Teague wouldn’t definitely state that Tubby Smith will be back next year as Gophers men’s basketball coach, he did indicate he’s happy with Smith’s ability to take the team to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010.

“I evaluate coaches at the end of the year. I don’t during the year publicly,” Teague said. “He has got us to the NCAA tournament, so we’re looking forward to going with him and the team down there [to Austin, Texas, on Wednesday]. It’s going to be a great opportunity to play UCLA Friday night.

“I don’t comment on anything during the year, as far as status of coaches. I don’t think it’s fair to them, whether they’re 12-0 or 0-12, to use a football reference. We’ll evaluate at the end of the year. I always say that. I always stick to that, I think that’s the way to do it. But going to the NCAA is a good accomplishment, and I’m proud that we’re going.”

Go Gophers!!

Non-story. Our AD is happy we made the tournament, won't make official evaluation until after the season, which is 100% logical and consistent with his stance all year. Everything else is just fluff added by Sid to accompany the quotes.

Man does anyone proof Sid's column? Coltin Iverson of "Colorado College"???

can we ever have a thread that does not end up bad mouthing Tubby Smith or Sid Hartmann. We are still in the game, little ones. Enjoy.

Sooo...I guess Woody would be happy taking the fat girl to the prom? In regards to Sid. He's a legend. Funny, every other country has the utmost respect for the elderly. Here, they're punch lines
One of the many reason the rest of the world has lost respect for America.

In the rest of the world they don't publish the ramblings of 93-year-olds in a major daily newspaper, nor do they put them on the radio to broadcast their fading abilities. Show respect to your own great-grandfather in your own living room. Time to get Sid off the air, and that's said with the utmost respect for his position in the community. I've loved reading and listening to Sid over 40 years or more, but now I just get embarrassed when he's on the air.

The issue here has nothing to do with his age. It's that this is a non-story that a writer is trying to turn into a story. Every AD in the country would be happy to make the NCAA Tournament. The only other insight here is the same thing he's been saying all year long, that he won't evaluate the program until after the season. Sid adds in a couple of random opinions/rumors/interpretations/implications. Basically, it's just a story just to publish something.

Expect what is given, we are all going to grow old. My grandmother said when you grow old you grow sweet or sour. Sid is sweet, some commenting are growing sour.

Sid can be a little sour himself.:)

Sid is a grouch; I worked weekend security at the Star Tribune building back when I was in college!
