per Sid:

Stevens was asked if Goetz can handle dealing with all the issues and personalities that come with being an athletic director.

“There is no question about that,” he said. “She also understands that not every day is roses. She doesn’t lose her cool and she has a great temperament when things aren’t going well. Then when things do go really well, you know she’s the same, she just comes in and supports you and you feel good about working in the same environment as her. I’ve made it pretty well known how highly I think of her and I don’t know where they are in the whole search and everything else, but I can’t imagine finding anyone better.”

When asked what stood out about Goetz at Butler, Stevens said it was her relationship with student-athletes and her demeanor.

“I think it’s just the way she goes about her everyday business, she’s the same person every day and she treats people great,” he said. “She’s very smart. She’s passionate about the school she’s at. I actually texted with her [Monday] and she’s talking about all of the U of M athletics, talking about the big win in men’s basketball over Maryland last week. She’s so excited to be here and just to be a support to the athletes. That’s the one thing that I think in that position that you can never sell short is how much passion they have for supporting the athletes.”

Go Gophers!!

Honestly, this recommendation makes me very comfortable with Goetz being the AD. I believe Stevens is one of the best coaches of a generation, and he doesn't seem to be one to give out flattering comments like this just to be nice.

And if things go south at MN or Boston, she can hire him as the next coach of the Basketball team. :)

Stevens- 'first and foremost, i am loyal to Butler'

Finally I know who F'in Brad Stevens wants as our AD. Boy was I wondering. Now if someone could get to Oprah and get her opinion I will finally be able to sleep at night.

He could easily be polite and say that they had a good relationship and she was a hard worker. He took the time to compliment her in-depth.

I know it's gonna be doom and gloom around here if Goetz gets hired, but I think she'd be just as good as any. I don't care if he's just saying it to be nice, Brad Stevens is one of the best recommendations as you can get. I applied to Butler and took a visit there...the whole school is basically the house that Brad Stevens built.

When you went there for your visit, what was the sense you got on the impact she had on the football program? Any clue what the football coach at Butler would say about Beth?

HAHAHA. To keep it on a similar line of thinking, I wonder if Kurt Rambis follows her on Twitter? If he doesn't I don't think she is up to the AD job.

They won the conference championship 3 times during her 5 years there, and their stadium got a new entrance, increased seating, and new lighting while she was there. They also hosted their first night game during that time period.

Her biography mentions a lot of sports at Butler, none named football.

Yes, Butler has football.

No, her bio at Butler didn't mention the sport.

Beth Goetz, former assistant athletic director and women's soccer coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, was named assistant athletic director for compliance, eligibility and certification at Butler University in July 2008...

As an administrator, Goetz assisted with all aspects of compliance at Missouri-St. Louis, including eligibility certification and rules interpretations and education. She had responsibility for the student service department including academic advisement, CHAMPS/Life Skills, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Athletic Training room. She further supervised the sports of baseball, softball and men's and women's golf. She also was active on several conference and national committees, including serving as Chair of the Division II Women's Soccer National Committee.

Mike Shanahan won two Super Bowls. He still told us how great Brewster was. Because that's what you do.

Another one.
Steckel, who was hired on Grant's recommendation as the franchise's third coach in its 23-year-history.

So if Beth G doesn't get the job.....does she stay on as top asst?

My guess is she'll stay on for a time to help with the transition, and then seek an AD job elsewhere. Maybe at a smaller school. Just a guess.

I wouldn't think for long if at all. From what I have been told her partner lives in the Chicago area and has a very good job there. This may have also contributed to her not emphatically throwing her name into the ring right away for the full time job.
