Sid: Gophers have hopes to get more out of Berkley Edwards and Jeff Jones

Question - is Sid pulling this out of his backside, or was this leaked/suggested to him by someone on the coaching staff? Could this be a piece of the Limegrover puzzle - that Claeys and/or others on the staff felt the Gophers were not making the best use of some of the potential offensive talent?

I think it goes without saying Claeys didn't feel Limegrover was getting it done in a lot of ways. Will we see Jones back on the offensive side? Was he moved before or after Jerry's retirement? Seems like it coincided with Jerry's retirement if I remember right. In any case, maybe Claeys took him out of frustration he wasn't being utilized on the other side. All pure speculation, hold your fire (it's a discussion board).

I don't know if a new OC can fix Berkley's hands though.

Could be, but I always got the impression under Kill that if a guy missed a block in fall practice or some such thing, he got a seat in the doghouse and didn't get a chance to play his way out of it. I'm all for tight discipline, but sometimes you have to put guys in positions where they can succeed and use their physical tools.

I kind of view this as the change from Tom Kelly to Ron Gardenhire with the Twins. Kelly couldn't stand Ortiz and wanted him back in AAA (and that was the plan). Kelly's dad either got seriously ill or passed away, Gardenhire took over for a week to ten days and immediately put Ortiz in the line-up. Ortiz proceeded to hit and stuck with the team the rest of the year. Of course, the Twins non-tendered him over the winter and he signed with the Red Sox and the rest is history. But the point remains when it comes to putting people in positions where they can succeed and not just burying guys and I think Claeys is going to overlook a quirk here or there to get some toolsy guys on the field.

All this said, I could be totally talking out of my a**.

Limegrover and Kill's quotes on Jones made it seem like he couldn't pick up the non rushing/receiving nuances. Clays continued to say his input on offense was "to get the playmakers the ball in space, and make the plays called be plays the players feel comfortable executing"
It's possible Jones ran sloppy routes, or didn't block well, or couldn't pick up the scheme, but it's strange that IF he's as good as people think he is, he didn't get a package of plays late after Kill resigned.
The hire of the new OC will be very interesting and how certain players are handled and utilized should be the biggest story of the next year.

Well it didn't take long for Claeys to let Limegrover go. Have to wonder......did Claeys have in mind all along that Limy needed to go?.......did Claeys consult with Kill?.......did Kill agree Limy had to go but couldn't bring himself to do it?......did Kill suggest Claeys to dump Limy?.....so many questions.

I would love to know the answers to these ?'s as well.

On another note, what are people's thoughts on when our new OC/QB coach and line coach will be hired? Will it pretty much have to be after bowl season? Before?

TC said it may need to wait until the January coaches convention
