Musings by Sid and Dave at 10:08 a.m. while awaiting Coach Kill’s appearance on the Sports Huddle.

1) Dave Mona mentioned Iowa’s blowout of Northwestern and specifically the Hawkeye’s rushing attack (Dave said Mark Weisman reminds him of Ron Dayne and Larry Czonka): Sid, however, cited the rushing of redshirt freshman Akrum Wadley. Wadley rushed for 106 yards and Weisman ran for 94 yards in yesterday's game. In Sid’s opinion, Northwestern is not a very good team at this time; however, (Iowa) “Good competition for the Gophers.” He added that he’s glad they’re playing the Hawks at home.

2) Dave and Sid talked briefly about Ohio State and Michigan State. They both think Michigan State is the best team in the Big Ten. Sid didn’t sound too impressed with Ohio State and he thought they could have lost to Penn State.

Dave Mona said Nebraska looks much better than they did at the start of the season. Both commentators are impressed with Ameer Abdullah’s running abilities. It appears as though the leg injury that Ameer suffered yesterday is not too serious and will be back for the Gopher-Nebraska game, according to Dave Mona.

Following their short discussion that was related to Ameer Abdullah, Sid cited the play of Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon. Sid is very impressed with Gordon’s running.

3) After discussing the attributes of the above running backs, Sid said the (Gophers) “Can’t let them (opposition) get ahead of them (Gophers).” Sid said he was sure that Coach Kill will have the team prepared for the upcoming opponents.

Sid then said the fans need to be patient with Jerry Kill: “Jerry Kill inherited a horrible squad.” In short, it takes time to build a winner and Jerry Kill has the Gophers headed in the right direction, according to Sid.

4) When discussing the recent happenings in Ann Arbor, Sid opined: Jim Harbaugh will be the next Wolverine head coach.

5) In their closing moments of their Gopher football discussion – awaiting Coach Kill’s appearance – Dave Mona mentioned the passing of a longtime assistant coach at Minnesota under Murray Warmath, Bob Bossons. Sid responded, “Bob Bossons was a great screamer.” Dave agreed with Sid and he recollected the same thing when he covered the Gophers when he was writing for the Minnesota Daily as a student at Minnesota. (I was fortunate to have watched the Gopher teams during the Warmath years and when Bossons was an assistant at Minnesota. Additionally, while stationed at Fort Hood, Texas I watched a game at Waco, Texas between Baylor and Rice University. Bossons was an assistant at Rice at that time (1970).

Go Gophers!!
