44. Minnesota 2008 Record: 7-6 2008 Final CFN Season Rank: 71
Now the program has to start to really roll. Despite last year’s disastrous second half, big strides were made throughout the season. Out of the dome, Minnesota is in a new stadium and with a new attitude. QB Adam Weber and WR Eric Decker will form a dangerous combination, but it’ll be the defense, even without defensive coordinator Ted Roof, who took off to Auburn, that should make the biggest improvement with nine returning starters.

CFN has us 44th and showing improvement next year.

It looks like the middle of the Big Ten is very equal with Illinois, Iowa, Minn, Michigan State and Wiscy all within 15 places of one another. This year is going to be very, very interesting.

I think Michigan State has the potential to really turn into a top level team in the Big Ten with the recruiting that is improving and with a great new coach in Mark Dantonio.

One more good year out of Dantonio and you might see him high on Notre Dame's wish list if Weis doesn't pan out.

Hard to see the U and Iowa as being sort of equal. I hate Iowa as well as the next Gopher fan ......but I thought their team looked a lot, lot sharper than ours. They had that explosive snap in their play that I have always found very impressive in a good college FB team. And, I do not think it was a matter of two or three players here or there on the field. Their whole approach to football on both O and D was much more 'North-South' than ours. I will need to see that from our team in an actual BCS game before I would put us in their class. Sorry, but that is just the way I saw it.

I know this sounds obvious, but so much will depend on how players progress over the season. Even though a lot of teams are returning starters, I think a lot of our starters have a big potential for improvment before next season. If Weber can improve as much as he did Freshman to Sophomore year, that would be huge. I'm hoping Brandon Green can improve a lot and be a threat next year.
