The writer basically points out that we're not the only one to hire an "unsexy" coach, and oftentimes these coaches are the best fit for the program, which is essential for the program to have success. If Florida could not get/did not want a successful established head coach, what chance did Maturi have? Guys like Petersen "fit" at Boise...they may not fit anywhere else. How's Richrod fitting in with Michigan's fb culture?
What seems obvious to fans is not always the way AD's look at things, many of whom do look at how coaches "fit" with their institutions.
And, at least from the writers point of view, we got exactly what we needed. Time will tell, but nice to at least start out with someone outside the state thinking we're on the right track!
