Interesting stuff...Iowa likes to think they have rivalries with Wisconsin and Minnesota but the numbers show theyre obviously second fiddle.;)
 

What I thought was funny is how Wisconsin was rated in the top 4 for rudest fans by 9 of 10 teams. Hey, at least they're consistant.
 

I also find it interesting that we are the third-highest rival across the board for teams. Now, having said that, we have two teams that find us to be their biggest rival, so it skews the board, but still...

It's easy to have the nicest fans when you don't have any.
 


Rivalries where each school ranks the other as their greatest rival:
Ohio State vs. Michigan
Indiana vs. Purdue
Minnesota vs. Wisconsin

Rivalries where one school ranks the other as their greatest rival
Northwestern vs. Illinois (Illinois ranks NU second to Michigan)

Teams remaining
Iowa (Minnesota)
Penn State (Ohio State)
Michigan State (Michigan)

One interesting note is that if they ever split the conference and had to split Michigan and Ohio State into different leagues, they could replace them on rivalry weekend with Michigan-MSU and Ohio State-Penn State and would have two great rivalries. The Bucs and Wolverines would need to play an OOC game every other year - although I don't know that this would happen as TV would go nuts if they didn't play on the last weekend of the year.

The other thing the survey shows is that the PSU/MSU rivalry is contrived.
 

How bad does the SEC's record in the Capital One Bowl have to get before they will admit the Big Ten is better than the Big XII?

Actually 3rd for rudest, but strangely 4th for most polite fans as well.

It could be argued that there is a correlation to the 4 teams with the rudest fans being the 4 most successful teams of the B10 the last 5 years. Just saying.
 



I enjoy the notion that ~10% of Badger fans consider Michigan their top rival, but Michigan fans don't even have them on their radar at 0.0%. In fact, a small faction think NU is a bigger rival. How is OSU not a clean 100%?

Also, who are the 1.3% Gopher fans who think Ohio State is our top rival? There is no team in the conference we've been less competitive with than OSU. Idiots.

Maybe Wisconsin fans tend to be either jerks or really polite. Maybe there's no middle road. From my own experiences with Wisconsin fans I think I'd say it's true. The biggest jerks I've ever encountered at a sporting event were Wisconsin fans, yet I've also had some really nice, informed conversations with other Wisky fans.

For the record, Iowa fans as a group are the worst and the Iowa trolls that appeared on this board this week prove it.
 

Another interesting observation is that the Pac-10 has five near perfect rivalries. Of the ten teams, only Washington doesn't consider their rivalry opponent #1 (they choose Oregon) and yet still 46% of them think WSU is thier top rival.

I just meant that almost all fan bases considered Wisconsin as one of the rudest. Overall, they're 3rd but sometimes that can be skewed by two or three fan bases rating them so high. So I went through and found that virtually every team had them in the top 3 or 4 of rudest fans.

I love that there are actually Ohio State fans out there that consider us a bigger rival than Michigan. Granted, it's only .1% of the voting population, but we are tied for their third biggest rivalry!!
