Navy and Air Force are scheduled to play Saturday afternoon in Annapolis, Md., but the game is in jeopardy as government operations have ground to a halt.

The Department of Defense has suspended athletic competitions at all three service academies, Navy announced Tuesday. Air Force later posted a statement on its website saying athletic teams would not travel for events, including Saturday’s game, while the shutdown is in effect.

A Pentagon spokesman, Army Col. Steve Warren, told the Associated Press the suspension is being reviewed by Pentagon lawyers to determine whether funds used for these activities are congressionally appropriated funds.

Ugh! disappointing for there fan bases and players and coaches. Feel bad for the Midshipmen and Airforce cadets,
This is why the guy's practice, to play games on Saturdays, and then the Government shutdown takes it away. Not much we can do, the politicians are not listening to the people anyways. Wonder if they will get a chance to reschedule?
 

Although unfortunate, it is spit in a rainstorm. A sad day for our country.
 


It really is too bad. I feel bad for the fans and especially the players. All the hard work day in and day out just to possibly have nothing to show for it. Hope everything gets figured out soon.
 

Ridiculous. Political fodder, I have to believe the football teams make money. If there are other sports, I agree, shut them down if they lose money.

As a father of a former Air Force cadet and player, this is a sad, sad day if it happens.
 

While it is a shame that the fine cadets and midshipmen will not be able to meet on the gridiron, the real shame is our congress and executive acting like children or feudal lords, depending on how you look at it, in the management of our government and our national defense. Throw them all out
