Huge game Saturday, I was there and his punts were fantastic, beautiful spirals. Sorry if this was mentioned elsewhere (I didn't see it), if so, moderators feel free to delete this post.

Couldn't agree more. He's been outstanding this season. He's got a 45.4 net average, which places him first in the B10 and eighth in the nation. He's also been excellent with his situational/positional/directional punting and gets consistently good hang-time, which allows his coverage teams for the most part to be right there on it, so I will second your Mortell shout out and then some.

Don't say this stuff around bottlebass, he thinks Mortell is the worst punter in NCAA football.

Mortell has been GREAT all year and is a great teammate as well.

I never said this. I just said he wasn't NFL draftable talent. He has gotten better as the season has progressed. And... is making me eat some of my words. But he still isn't NFL draftable talent.

Who cares? He is the best in the BigTen and he is ours.

It was in response to people saying he was nfl draftable talent in another thread. Which is what highway was referring to. He/she has a good memory to call me out by name weeks later. Mortell has punted MUCH better the last few games than he did earlier in the season when he was shanking them but still getting good bounces to pad his stats.

Is it possible the technique he uses to kick the ball may produce the beneficial bounces? I would agree he gains some yardage off the nice bounces and rolls, but it's so frequent with his kicks and I rarely see them take a non-beneficial bounce that it leads me to wonder if there isn't something he is doing to influence that.

Here is Mortell's workout schedule for today. Which way to the gym (flexes and points). :p

Well, seeing there has been only one punter drafted in each of the last two NFL drafts, that's a pretty safe assumption.

Not only teammate, but if you watched the video Nadine posted, a hell of a great person. Before the game he was with the kid Coach Kill had as a guest. Pretty cool for the kid. If you haven't seen the video, you should click. Be prepared to claim you have something in your eye.

doesn't he have another year of eligibility? I hope he does.

I never knew how important having a good punter was until the past two years with Mortell. Difference maker!

Most punters (even the best ones) aren't DRAFTABLE talent. Punters just don't get drafted in the NFL very often. Mortell is a great punter and has improved as the season has gone on. He should be a strong consideration for all-big ten.

How about his latest tweet: "I am going to be a great stay at home trophy husband someday" Made me laugh pretty hard! lol :D

What's even more impressive about Mortell's punting this past Saturday was the fact that he did in that cold weather, the ball had to feel like a rock.

Hey, we can all dream can't we. Btw - Men out there can learn everything they need to know about being a top notch stay at home trophy husband simply by watching the 1983 classic "Mr. Mom" starring Michael Keaton and Teri Garr.

I'm pretty sure people were saying he could play in the NFL, not that he would be drafted. Very few punters get drafted.

Mortell is one of the better punters in the NCAA, and is certainly NFL-type talent. Since I understand the punting game, not just how far a guy can kick the ball, I can say this: it's about hang time and ball placement. The reason Mortell gets "good bounces" is that he places the ball where it cannot be returned. He has also gotten the ball out of an end zone situation just about every time without a hitch.
