Maybe they're rethinking the $.5M raise their arrogant coach got in the offseason for no reason at all.

If you bought into the idea which I did that this was a reset year as the former AD put out there and if things get really bad at The Barn another reset might be coming sooner with a new head coach.

I think we all knew that this season would be a reset year to some degree or another. The question at this point is how bad will it be. My expectation coming into the season was a floor of 13 wins and a ceiling of 17. If this team finishes with 10 or fewer wins, should the administration consider firing Pitino? Maybe. If that decision occurs after those season results, then I wouldn't say that it was premature.

We all knew this wasn't such a great roster, but, earlier in the season, it still looked like one that was capable of winning 8 nonconference games anyway. Now it looks like one that may finish the nonconference at 6-6. If that happens and Pitino doesn't figure out something different, winning four (or less) conference games is a reasonable expectation.

About damn time hey get concerned. Non con attendance is embarrassing.

Just curious, what makes him arrogant?

If you're mad about the raise, I would point the finger at the people who gave him the raise.

I never figure out why any team has empty seats- you figure there is a market price for all of them. Lowering tickets prices a few bugs for someone to spend $10 in concessions and more for parking is worth it.

Are face value tickets different in the barn from upper to lower deck or sideline to end line? I have to admit I have been to only a few games the past several years and never bought tickets at the at the ticket office

Many of the empty seats represent tickets that were bought but not used. Some would be season ticket holders. Some may belong to students. Some might be sold to businesses whose employees or owners skip the games. Some are bought by resellers who can't sell all of them. Before the USD game, I saw a guy on the sidewalk with a bundle of them who I knew wasn't going to get rid of most of them.

Fair points -does anyone know how many actual tickets have been sold each game. I would have no problem letting students in at tip off equivalent to any unsold tickets

Arrogant? Is this equivalent to the odd anger some people on here have toward Pitino for receiving a raise or getting the job in the first place? I can't understand the logic there. Should he have turned down the job or raise?

Curious myself.

Not only is the University of Minnesota concerned about ticket revenue declines at Williams Arena from the men's basketball team, but also financial losses as a result of diminished sales in apparel and concessions at games.

Well those things due tend to suffer when attendance is low. We have a nice home slate in conference, I imagine attendance will pick up for those games. People like to watch Top ten programs and we have three coming in. I'd imagine one way or the other a lot people will come to the badger game too.

You graduated in '13? You're still young, so give it more time to mature and you'll understand. I'm assuming the '13 was not 1913.

'13 was the year I received my Masters from CSOM.

What I'm referring to in my admittedly emotional response is that he was given a B1G coaching job and has received a raise in his 2nd year, for what? Seems to me like it is because of his last name. He acts like Bob Knight out there and it's starting to get a little old. If I'm a player, I'm wondering how on earth this dude thinks he can treat me that way when he has done nothing -nothing- to prove that he is a good coach. Turned around the FIU program? That is good, but it was 1 season.

I still don't see that any of these things make him arrogant. In what ways is he acting like Bob Knight?

Not trying to start a fight or anything. Just very curious as to how you came to these conclusions.

Like most, I could care less about this current season, for me its all about next year and beyond, think firing Pitino after this year would be a major mistake and will just increase our "reset time" so to speak. From the little I have seen in games, our worst players are the older ones, and our promising ones are the young guys. Our biggest problem by far is our bigs, and we have 2 experienced players stashed away for next season. We also have 3 highly rated recruits coming in, with one being a likely starter right away. This is all a recipe for success after this year, we can't afford to blow that up by firing Pitino. It may not work out, but I rather see what happens before giving up on it.

Compared to the other schools the Gophers have the one of the highest ticket prices (including the required seat donations). As a matter of fact I saw some stats that showed that they were in the top 25 in the country. So when they have a bad product on the court of course people are not going to want to pay some of the highest prices in College basketball.

Given this they still can not make themselves sufficient. The U of MN is a notoriously inefficient school that wastes a lot of money and are always asking for more from the taxpayers and raising tuition on the students.

Had season tickets for a few years 20 years ago. Life changed and I have been to maybe 20 games since. I love the arena like no other but a new arena needs to be built. It would make it easier to be flexible when marketing to new fans and today's recruits.

To answer your last question. If you were a player he controls your playing time.
