If Gophers men's basketball coach Tubby Smith is retained for next season, at the very least he's expected to have to replace some of his assistants. The top guy Smith should seek is DeLaSalle boys basketball coach Dave Thorson.

Thorson is a tireless former Gophers assistant and top recruiter who has DeLaSalle ranked among the top 25 high school teams in the nation by PrepNation. He coaches 6-foot-7, 225-pound Reid Travis, who with Apple Valley's Tyus Jones and Robbinsdale Cooper's Rashad Vaughn are nationally ranked juniors.

Sounds like a plan to me. Why on earth would Tyrus go to Ky? Andrew Harrison and his brother are already committed to Ky for '13 joining Marquis Teague '11. UNC is chock full of PG's through 2016. The only logical conclusion is for Tyrus to become a Golden Gopher and he'll be enshrined into the GH Wall of Fame for eternity.

It's Tyus, not Tyrus. I don't think he'll go to Kentucky, but the Harrison twins will both likely be one and done anyway and Marquis Teague doesn't play there anymore. He was one and done.

All the more reason for Tyrus to play for his home state Univ. of Minn. Twin Cities!!!!!
 



The obvious rejoinder to this would be, hell, just hire Thoreson as head coach and be done with it.
 

Another Stupid blurb. DT has Big Time Job Security at D plus he gets to be the alpha male. Tubby's assistant could be a one and done!

Went to De and Thorson is basically the man there. I won't pretend that I knew him real well (never played varsity ball) but he really seems to love it at De and has had plenty of opportunities to move on and do something else. Also, it wouldn't even be a good fit. Thorson's strength is intense, man to man defense. Tubby needs an OC

Wasn't Thorson on Clem's staff? Would he even be welcomed back considering the Jimmy Williams fiasco?
