Shooter with a few tid-bits:

Gophers associate athletics director Mike Ellis has been heavily involved in the Villa 7 program that identifies and nurtures promising assistant basketball coaches, including Andy Enfield before he became head coach at Florida Gulf Coast. Some are wondering, according to reports, whether Gophers AD Norwood Teague will try, with Ellis, to bring Enfield to Minnesota to succeed Tubby Smith.

Don't think former Indiana coach Bob Knight, 72, wouldn't take the Gophers men's basketball coaching job if offered.

Rick Majerus, who died at age 64 of heart failure in December, would have been a bona fide Gophers coaching candidate.

There's whispering in NBA circles that Flip Saunders, who is in the Gophers coaching hunt, also could end up with an offer to coach the Cleveland Cavs in his home state.

If the Timberwolves' coaching job becomes available, don't be surprised if ex-Wolf Fred Hoiberg at Iowa State gets consideration.

Sleeper possibility for the Gophers' job: Virginia's Tony Bennett.

A little birdie says Gophers men's basketball assistant Joe Esposito, fired Monday, on Tuesday interviewed for a head college coaching job outside of Minnesota but would like to remain in the state.

Eric Musselman, son of former Gophers-Timberwolves coach Bill Musselman, is expected to be sought by Cal State-Fullerton.

Brian Dutcher, son of former Gophers basketball coach Jim Dutcher, remains the certain successor for the head coaching job at San Diego State when Steve Fisher decides he's had enough.

Go Gophers!!

Tony Bennett? I couldn't think of a less interesting style of basketball. That is one of the few hires that would make me want to drop my season tickets.

Isn't his style of ball pretty much Bo Ryan 2.0?

What was that? That's probably one of the worst columns I've ever read. He mentions Knight at 72 and a guy who died last year as candidates...

How do you mention Majerus? This is a column for the ages.

You seem kind of closed off to the possibilities. Just because nobody's ever hired a dead guy before...

Charley Walters vomiting up every name he could think of. Helpful. That said Bennett is more likely than Enfield, Knight or Mussleman. And probably Majerus. They're doing amazing things with holograms these days.

Hire Tony Bennett and we've got an indoor rugby program.

I wish people would quit mentioning Majerus ever. I listen to Barreiro and Gaard go on about the guy and just want to puke. The guy was a decent coach, but he was also a moron.

There has got to be a better chance of getting Shaka out of VCU than there would be getting Bennett out of Charlottesville, anyway.

Majerus? No way would he have been considered with his health problems. Guy's dead.

Serious question because I don't know. Has Bruce Pearls name ever come up?

How did Shooter forget to mention the possibilty of a Clem Haskins return?

I Agree let's keep the Wisconsin Family lineage out of the Minnesota coaching ranks, yawn.

i will kill myself if i have to watch tony bennett play bo ryan twice a year.

Man the minnesota sports writers are lazy.

Whatever happens, I'm sure he'll appreciate the nice raise it'll get him. Villa 7's secret mission is raises for everyone. Norwood gets a cut.
