"The University of Minnesota has three things to do: teach, provide research and outreach," Johnson said Tuesday. "The first two are extremely important. The third, the outreach — I can think of no better outreach than to have a winning football team, a Big Ten championship and a competitive national football team.

"Let me give you an example. Maybe it's not a good analysis. In 1987 and 1991, when the Minnesota Twins won the World Series, there were few aches and pains in this state during that time. People were ecstatic.

"If the Golden Gophers were to go back to the Rose Bowl or be nationally competitive, that helps us get through the workday; that takes care of a lot of things. The positives: the alumni become more excited, donors begin to feel good about their giving, not only to athletics, but to the law school, to the school of medicine, to whatever. And it all generates an enthusiasm."

Go Gophers!!

I know my week is better after the Gophers win.

But I'm a Crazy, so it doesn't say much about the average Minnesotan.

An even better thing was the interview question he said he would ask in interviewing the new president.

I hope he isn't in the minority on the board of Regents.

Dean Johnson for president!!

GM

Thanks Gopher07 and stevedave23 for the address. It will make much easier for others, like me, to send Johnson an email which I did.

dpodoll68. Maybe you need to swith to decaf. Chill out.

dpodoll you are a good guy but you don't have to go out of your way to be such a d-bag.

Do you take solace in being such an ass?

"Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime."

Wouldn't it be even better if someone posted his email address in this thread so people could just click on it and draft the email??

Do you have your mom come over and wipe for you too?

You'd think people would be aware that the University has a website after it's been mentioned literally hundreds of times on this very forum.

You know what? You're right. I think we should all stop using the internet to help and communicate with others.

Mods, please delete Dean Johnson's email address from this thread so that everyone must do their own search to find the website that has his email address. That makes complete sense.

That's not at all what I'm saying, and you know it.

You're doing more work by coming and posting here for e-mail addresses than you are by going straight to the source. (And it's not just you, it's everyone who posts here looking for University e-mail addresses like they're locked away in some secret vault.)

I mean, do you go to the doctor's office and ask the nurse to fill up your gas tank for you? Do you go to the grocery store and ask the cashier to do your taxes? Why does sanity go out the window when "www." is involved?

Ah...no. I'm not.

I was reading the thread and posted a "quick reply" to see if someone had his email address. I thought perhaps someone else had looked it up already and could post it.

I can see your point though. If I ask a question, someone else will ask a question, IT'LL BE ANARCHY!!!!!!

This is not remotely analogous to asking a nurse to fill up your gas tank, or asking a cashier to do your taxes. It's simply asking a question. It's more like asking a cashier what aisle the canned vegetables are in. Sure, you could go and walk down and look for the signs over the aisles that says canned vegetables, but it's not unreasonable to ask the question.

Asking a question that you could look up on the web is not throwing sanity out the window. It is simply what humans tend to do, they ask questions, and then go look them up if no one has the answer.

Fair enough. I guess I just prefer to do my own work rather than have someone lead me by the hand and dab up my drool with a bib.

It's actually more analogous to asking the cashier where the sign that hangs above the aisle telling them where the canned vegetables are... after 2 or 3 people in line already did before you. They're clearly marked, as is the website with emails readily available and has been discussed on here several times. I agree for me it's just a little easier to go find it myself than wait for someone else to let me know on the board. The advantage is everyone reading the thread can then see what the email address is. In that case, I would post something like:

"It's probably a good idea to email so and so this. I'm going to and here is his email: xxx@xxx"

My take I guess.

stop fighting him. he's on your side.

i went to the "u" for my masters so i very rarely used my umn.edu account - posting johnson's email in the thread is helpful. just how helpful? i am now going to write him a supportive email. i wouldn't have otherwise.

Same here. Lets make this easier rather than not at all.

I already received a response from Mr. Johnson .

Maybe Dpodoll68 would be in a better mood if we won a game, excuse him for being snarky lately. Hopefully we win a game soon so he will stop kicking posters.

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm not trying to criticize anyone, but as a fairly new user how am I and/or other new users supposed to know what has already been discussed a million times? Some of us do not have time to go back and read 2 years worth of posts before we comment on something.

Great point. However, stevedave23 has been posting here for probably even longer than I have. He would've had to be blind to miss the dozens (not exaggerating) of times where someone pointed out that the University has a directory for e-mail accounts.

Not everyone that comes on this site visits the other, and it is helpful to have the information. Geeze.

Email sent and he already replied. The guys fighting for good need our support.
