I get under the table stuff is easy to get away with and I’m sure is rampant, but this is against the rules isn’t it?
 


NIL talk is hard to ... do.

Nobody involved is in position to be honest about numbers. And oh man there's NIL doomerism / angst that is endless.

As for Perich, pay the man his money.

I've only seen rumors that sounded like they are as reliable as the hilarious Cole Kramer rumors ...

Not to say he didn't get paid, just that so many NIL numbers seem unverifiable and folks love throwing out numbers.

This past off-season there were folks confidently putting out news that Kansas State (I think it was K state) was paying a bazillion dollars for a QB to transfer, to be the back up. Everyone but Kansas State was all "I don't think even have that much money". But that didn't keep the rumors from spreading.

as I understand it, a Coach or "representative" of another program is not allowed to approach Perich directly with an offer. but the easy way to get around that is to find a 3rd-party to make the offer - a player, or a friend of the family, or the 2nd cousin of the guy who runs the school collective. just separate the offer from the coaching staff enough to have plausible deniability.

and that's the problem - figuring out what is or is not against the rules. and then, deciding who is supposed to enforce the rules and what punishment - if any - is to be handed out.

it's like a room with a thousand mice and one cat. the cat may get a few mice, but there's no way the cat can get all the mice. and that assumes the cat is trying to catch the mice. with the NCAA, it appears they've quit trying, and the mice can eat all the cheese they want.

Which is funny considering they rode Mo into the ground that year, no reason they couldn't have each gotten half of Mo's touches. For reference Mo got 320 carries and 50 receptions that year compared to Irving's 156 carries and 31 catches. If load leveling was more a thing no reason Irving couldn't have gotten his exact same workload and Mo still gets a VERY healthy load, heck they would have also taken carries away from Potts and Williams I'm sure.

The nature of NIL being donations too and rumor has it he had some real financial needs.

Kinda wonder if his number was less representative / market value and more "yo I hear that guy's families had some tough luck" and more money comes in from donors too.

Honestly, I kinda suspect there isn't even a functional market value for these things...

Not saying he isn't worth it, also not saying he is. My question is, where can I find what KP is actually getting paid for use of his NAME/IMAGE/LIKENESS? I haven't seen any of that anywhere, not in media, not in print, not anywhere. Same is true for any of these NIL athletes, any sport, any school.

The NIL system was broken before it happened. This is pay for play.

Exactly- there would've been plenty of touches and PT for Bucky had he stuck around here. It was purely a money thing.

I've worried about this a little. With as great as Perich is (and he's been amazing), we have another Freshman future NFLer at S that doesn't get as much shine as he otherwise would.

Kerry Brown was really good for us this year in a pretty difficult role.

Not always something a Minnesota freshman deals with. More like what the bama and OSU freshman deal with in terms of competition. Hopefully they are taking care of Brown. He's really good.

Yep....at least in terms of basketball and football. NIL is probably working much more as intended at the olympic sport and non revenue level.

As for finding the actual totals....yeah.....good luck on that one. Lots of numbers getting tossed around, most of them probably made up or incorrect.
 

Guessing Koi will make the freshman All American team.....should find out in a few days as at least some of those all american teams get released in early December.
 

remember - assuming the House settlement goes through, schools will be paying direct revenue-sharing to athletes next year.

so, let's say Perich gets $100-grand in revenue sharing (wild guess - could be more). that means Dinkytown Athletes only needs to come up with $400-grand in NIL to make that half-a-million total.
in reality, there will still likely be an arms race in NIL for the top players. but for a guy who is a decent starter - but not an all-world player - they can get some money in revenue sharing and in theory, that makes them less likely to jump to another school in search of more NIL.

on the revenue sharing, MN will be able to pay out up to (I believe) $22-million a year. the big question is how is that divided? if the bulk of the money goes to the revenue-producing sports (football and men's basketball), then let's say the football team gets to divide up $10-million. that's $95-thousand each if shared equally with 105 players. or, if not shared equally, several hundred thousand for the top players, and less for the end-of-the bench guys.

I hope I'm wrong on this but my theory is that it will be divided equally across all scholarship athletes.

The schools who prioritize winning will then start cutting non-revenue sports (equally men and women) until we're left with football, men's basketball, men's hockey, potentially wrestling and then the number of women's sports to equal that number of scholarships (a lot more sports to equal the FB scholarships).

Maybe it's healthier and a return to true amateurism for non-revenue sports if they go the club level. I honestly don't know.

Nobody knows how the revenue would be divided? C’mon. If MN is hiring a cap manager that’s either a contingency or they’re planning to allocate based on value.

If you can monetize your name, image, and likeness, it can be as simple as your "brand". It does not need to be formal advertisements, marketing, autograph signings, etc. That said, I'd imagine if you looked at his social media, you'd find something for DTA.

In addition, just like all brand endorsements, he is also getting paid by DTA just so we know he is part of DTA - which would make other people more likely to donate to DTA.
