per Shooter:

"-- Look for the University of Minnesota to hire the Parker Executive Search firm based in Atlanta, Ga., to assist in identifying candidates for its athletics director job. The university used the Parker firm in hiring football coach Jerry Kill in 2010.

Joel Maturi's AD contract expires in June. The university has received some local applications.

-- A prominent former Gophers football player who would seem qualified to succeed Maturi reiterated that he's not a candidate.

"I have a duty and I'm committed to the retired NFL players trying to help in the 'Dryer versus NFL' lawsuit that I started," Stein said.

The ongoing lawsuit centers on the NFL's right to use former players for publicity in NFL Films.

"I can't consider walking away from that," Stein, 64, said.

Stein, from St. Louis Park, was both an All-American defensive end and academic All-American at Minnesota. He also is a lawyer and played eight seasons in the NFL, including 1975 with the Vikings, before becoming CEO of the Minnesota Timberwolves."

Go Gophers!!

Does anyone have any idea what something like this costs the U?

i am more concerned that they find the right candidate than whether it costs some dollars. right or wrong, using executive search firms for coaching vacancies and AD vacancies is just the MO in college sports these days.

Yeah, I am sure President Kaler is going to hire an AD with a double digit IQ who was a total failure as GM of the Timberwolves.

Bob Stein has forgotten more than YOU'LL ever know!

Oh, I wasn't saying it was good or bad. I was just curious what the cost of something like that is. I'm sure it's well worth it.

Could be his way of acknowledging he has no chance.

So I was trying to apply for the job online, but I couldn't find it (their loss, I would make a GREAT athletic director!). I did, however, find a job listing for an Assistant Football Strength and Conditioning Coach that was posted ten days ago. That's a good sign. Sounds like Kill is getting the help that he wants.

iirc, $90K for the same firm to identify, locate, vet, pursuade, cajole, brow beat and sell Jerry Kill on the benefits of saying good-bye to NIU...

Clearly, the U just wants you to send in a resume and an essay saying all of your aspirations and vision for the position. Mail it to Kaler.

Market average ranges from $30k-$100k according to a December, 2011 article by Sports Business Daily.

In Boise's Case, it was one-third of the athletic director's first full-year compensation package ($266,115) = $88,705

Whether you like Bob Stein or not he is 64 and Joel Maturi is 67(?). Aren't we targeting someone that is going to have the ability to be around for a while?

I doubt he was an actual candidate...

Typically, search firms charge one-third of the eventual candidates base salary as payment -- paid by the school, of course.

I am torn between a candidate with ties to the University, maybe a former player and a candidate with a record of seeing the big picture that you must win in Basketball and Football. If you don't or just middle along, it will be more of the same. When they said a former player had been contacted, that takes in at least a half dozen people who could have what it takes. Bob Stein was not on that list.

Ok, Parker Search. They find them and who interviews them from the U? The Prez, a combination of coaches/alumni/players? Please tell me that neither Mona or Maturi will be within 10,000 miles of these interviews.

I guarantee you, ruppert, that President Kaler will include experts from the GopherHole as part of the interview process. :horse:
