"Sure, it bothers me; I don't want anybody to leave," Maturi said Saturday. "But you can't find a program in the country that doesn't lose some players. We've lost several in the last couple of years, and I wish it weren't the case. But it is."

Maturi said each player left for different reasons.

"They all have their stories," he said. "I feel the same way Tubby does — we don't want kids to leave. But if Colton feels that's best for him ... that's why Tubby gave him his release."

OVERHEARD

Gophers athletics director Joel Maturi on players transferring from the men's basketball program: "We will play with those who are here and not with those who are not."
