It remains a gross injustice that former Gophers and NBA coach Bill Fitch, 82, isn’t in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Reason: He’s not a self-promoter. Fitch, who coached Minnesota two seasons before leaving for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1970, is retired on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas, where he plays golf twice a week. Some prominent NBA front-office people still call him for advice.

Go Gophers!!

While he won a championship, coached in the finals twice, and was NBA COTY twice, he also took jobs with two train wreck organizations at the time (NJ and LAC). Due to that, he ended up second for the most losses next to Lenny Wilkins and an overall losing record. Had he been coach for better teams in the 90's and gone deep in the playoffs, no question he's in the HOF and wouldn't need to promote himself. His record and achievements would speak for themselves.
