Hoffarber has been training in Las Vegas for a pro career in Europe. Incoming Gophers senior Ralph Sampson III is still working out in Chicago.

Tubby Smith's wife, Donna, was to hold a spectacular surprise 60th birthday party for the Gophers men's basketball coach Saturday, flying in family members from across the country.

Pssst: New Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale and former Gophers-Timberwolves assistant Jimmy Williams, who resides in Houston, have chatted about an assistant job with the Rockets."
