per Shooter:

Glen Mason, who coached Minnesota to seven bowl games in 10 seasons and was Big Ten Network analyst for Saturday's Minnesota-Northwestern game at TCF Bank Stadium, said before the Gophers' 24-17 victory how impressed he is with Minnesota under fourth-year coach Jerry Kill.

"Really impressed with the direction the program's going in," Mason said. "Jerry coaches them up."

The Gophers have won six of their past eight conference games.

"That's got to be an indicator," Mason said.

Go Gophers!!

As usual some real top notch, hard hitting stuff there Charley. smh

My goodness will you and Sid both just go ahead and retire already. Tired of both of you essentially just mailing it in each and every day. Is a disservice to Mpls/St. Paul newspaper readers, imo.

First of all, Shooter did retire. He's only writing once a week. Second of all, I like this type of stuff. It doesn't all have to be Pulitzer Prize winning content. Third of all, if they wrote about Star Wars clothing you'd be excited. smh

I also get a kick out of games Mason announces. He takes every chance to toot his own horn.

My point stands. Walters content wasn't any better or different before he "retired". And I am certain there are several far more eager, far more refined/accomplished, hard working journalists out there who deserve an opportunity to take over and do whatever it is that these two "do".

P.S. Just because you have been around for a really long time doesn't mean you don't have to do your job in a satisfactory manner, which imo neither does any longer. Well, unless you are in a union......then you are pretty much set.

Fair points.

Charlie has to keep writing. If he doesn't, there will be a ton of unemployed little birdies.

Mason doesn't take himself to seriously, calling himself a dinosaur during the game today. He saw what a good defense can do against a feisty Northwestern team. Something he could have used a few times against that team. I sure he also wishes he could have had that stadium when he was coaching the Gophers. Best wishes to Mase. He was a good guy.

Or, better yet, if a relative owns the company.

Walters and Hartman are sports gossip columnists, no worse and maybe even better than all the rumor and gossip columnists employed by ESPN, CBS Sports, Sporting News etc. Calling them journalists may please them, but you're right, it doesn't seem to fit.

Though I'm sure they both would be irritated by the "gossip" tag and pleased by your journalist one.

Not sure they'd be pleased by the assessment though. :)

Back to the O.P., Mason has been saying nearly the same thing nearly every week when he appears on Barrerio's show. I say "nearly" 'cuz I don't listen every week.

Sid is too busy justifying Peterson beating his kid.
