Michael Shibrowski of the top-ranked Minnesota hockey program has been named the Big Ten Conference’s Second Star of the Week after earning his first career shutout in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Minnesota State.

The senior made his first start in 393 days against the Mavericks and helped the No. 1 Gophers sweep the nonconference series by turning away all 25 shots he faced in the performance. The 25-save showing matched Shibrowski’s career high while the shutout came one day after Shibrowski’s 23rd birthday.

Shibrowski is the fifth Gopher to earn Big Ten Conference weekly honors this year, joining three-time honoree Sam Warning, Kyle Rau, Justin Kloos and Hudson Fasching. The Gophers have had a Big Ten honor every week the team has seen action this season.

Minnesota returns to action this weekend, hosting Minnesota Duluth at Mariucci Arena on Friday and Sunday. Friday’s series opener is set for 7 p.m. CT on FOX Sports North PLUS and 1500 ESPN while Sunday’s finale is set for 4 p.m. on FOX Sport North and 1500 ESPN. Both games will also be available on BTN2G0.com.
