Shaw, Langford, Djimde leaving Illini

Did Tubby ever lose 3 in the same year?

read: being forced out

Could they make a move on Ellis or Foster? being Chicago kids Illinois would certainly know them and what they offer. Granted those two have signed letters but with Tubby being fired, does that open them up?

Probably - LOI are enforceable but you can't make them play for you. They are usually released if it gets to a real pissing match.

So yes - its all open.

Mike Shaw went to the same high school as Alvin Ellis does now. He's a PF. Gophers need a PF. Just throwing it out there.

Why? Why are those 3 leaving. And why would someone be attracted to a program that can't keep its already recruited players?!

Just saying

You can't recruit other teams' players. Remember the whole Pastner/Mbakwe situation?

Hopefully the new coach encourages him to "explore his other options."

If Oto or anyone else were to leave at this point, we would currently have three open scholarships which is not good at this point in the recruiting process. Either we end up with two or three open scholarships (which isn't good if you end up with a few injuries) or we end up signing guys that probably wouldn't be much better than Oto.

I agree. I can live with banking 2 tenders, but anymore is asking for trouble. Oto and Huge Mo were only sophomores, imo it's too early to give up on them. Also, I just went back and watched the tapes for Alex Foster again. He looks ready to give us minutes at PF. I can certainly see why he was heavily recruited.

You are kidding about making a move on Foster, aren't you? Not good enough. He should stay at Minnesota. By far his best offer. You can do better, imo. Ellis is a good player, but Illinois already recruited 2 wings in the 2013 class, both higher ranked than Ellis (Malcolm Hill and Kendrick Nunn). Ellis is a keeper, though. Plus, Illinois already has 5 recruits in the 2013 class. Scholarships are now open for the 2014 class, though.

The three players leaving Illinois barely played. For example, Paul scored more points in one game against Gonzaga than those three scored combined for the whole season. They are looking for places to get time. Shaw said he is leaving because he wants to play and it wasnt going to happen at Illinois.

Why is it ok for Kill to get guys only being recruited by low mid majors? I'd gladly take a low mid major guy who can shoot.

Combes knows his Illinois hoops. I trust his opinions. Ellis is a good get for us. Foster...

I looked them up hoping that one of them could potentially see time at PF next year. They combine to average 1.6 ppg.

Look again.

Look again.

Best real offer. There are offers and there are offers. Minnesota was his best. Don't you find it strange that his homestate school never gave him a sniff after his sophomore year? I have nothing against Foster. He is just not a BT level talent. He is a bit like Stanley Gaines who was physically mature as a youngster so got a high early ranking then downhill from there. Except Gaines was a better player. Recruits like him are one reason that Tubby is out the door.

I have no reason to believe rivals specifically targeted Alex Foster's profile in order to provide inaccurate recruiting information.
