Former Gopher from Becker, MN is playing for the Coyotes. The story I read said he was playing LB in the UCF, although the USD site says he is a DB. He had 16 tackles against UCF! Shane was all-Great West second team last year as well.

I enjoyed watching him in the state HS tournament and I was disappointed he transferred (or maybe was forced out? no idea what happened). Hope he has a good rest of his career at USD.

That said, I'm looking forward to steamrolling the Coyotes next weekend. They got flattened by UCF 38-7 and I think we should be able to handle them quite easily. Should be a nice tuneup for USC.

He was a stud at Becker. It was to bad he didn't get to play his senior year. My guess is when he came here as a freshman he wasn't fully healed from his injury and probably just got buried in the depth chart.

When Dwight Lundeen said he was the best player he had ever coached, I thought the sky was the limit. But a broken ankle and torn ACL as a junior caused him to miss his senior season. He needed the red shirt year, but he was one of the last Mason recruits. And they not only had a backlog at safety but Coach Brewster brought in Kyle Theret and the rest is history. Good to see he is still playing football. I can imagine a few handshakes after the game with Weber.

Interesting contradictory quotes from Shane:

Fuller article:

"It was a really tough decision, because it was a place a really wanted to go," Potter said. "Nothing against Minnesota at all, but it wasn't really for me. It really didn't have much to do with playing time. There were just a lot of different reasons why I left."

Sioux Falls' Argus Leader article:
"I just couldn't see putting five years into that program and wondering how much I was going to get to play," said Potter, now a three-year starter at USD. "I missed my senior year of high school, then I redshirted, so I really just wanted to play some football at that point."

Just thought it was interesting. I hope Shane has a good rest of his season...after the Gopher game.
