Anyone interested in being part of a college basketball pool, please send a PM.
The basics?
$10 entry fee, enter as many times as you like.
Pool uses Blue Ribbon's preseason top 25, which will be released shortly (if it hasn't already).
Pick 6 teams, 3 of which must be from Blue Ribbon's preseason top 10. The other 3 can be any other teams in the country, teams ranked #11-25 or unranked teams. The deadline (postmarked by) for entries will be Wednesday, Nov. 24, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. That gives you about two weeks to take a look at some teams.
There are weekly updates with teams receiving points based on their current ESPN/Coaches Poll ranking. Ranked #1 = 25 points, ranked #2 = 24 points, ranked #3 = 23 points, etc.
There are two payouts during the season for the pool leader, the first roughly the third Monday of January, the second the final ESPN poll prior to the NCAA Tournament (March 14).
The real payouts come in the NCAA Tournament. The top 5 finishers get paid. Your teams receive points for (in addition to the poll points they have on March 14):
1. Qualifying for the NCAA (5 points)
2. First Four round winner (10 points) -- A new wrinkle this season. There's potential to luck out with a bubble team that plays and wins in one of the extra games.
3. 2nd-round winner (15 points)
4. 3rd-round winner (20 points)
5. Sweet 16 winner (25 points)
6. Elite 8 winner (30 points)
7. Final 4 winner (35 points)
8. National champion = 40 points
Post NCAA Tournament payouts are as follows:
1st = 50% of the pot
2nd = 20%
3rd = 15%
4th = 10%
5th = 5%
We'll pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $20-30 for the two in-season payouts, depending on how many entries are received.
