Shame on Michigan State

Wasn't it Michigan State who chanted "Wash Your Face" to Colton Iverson?

There are idiots in every fan base.

More like shame on the idiot in the Izzone that said that to Hummel. Classless. Also shame on Dawson if he mouthed off to Painter, which from my viewpoint it looked like he did. No room for that. My guess is Izzo will handle it.

A limited amount you can do about the students, but the trash talking is uncharacteristic of Izzo's teams. I hope he's not letting that slip over there.

A friend told me that at a game he went to at the Barn, one of the students shouted at Izzo "I was that tall in kindergarten"

This. I'll never forget when Tubby e-mailed us (student section) last year about cleaning up our act. Some of the things I heard from other kids in there were awful. If only (some) people put half as much energy into supporting the team as they put into trying to think of clever/hurtful things to say to the opponent.

Trash talking on the court among players has gotten way out of control. I look at the whole NBA culture as what's to blame for that. Every single foul call, some idiot is running up to the ref to plead his case. So obnoxious.

Didn't our student section do an f you Bo chant last year or the year before?

Either way - no place for some of the things people say. I imagine we'd be pretty hot if their students were harping on Trevor about his knee as well. From what I've read it was pretty clear the kid was digging Painter, maybe Izzo should sit him on Wednesday. :)

If we have a problem with how MSU acts, beating them is the best way to shut them up.

There you have it.

Also remember this...No matter where one is, there is always going to be at least one more horses a$$ than there are horses in the group.

I don't like this mentality. First of all, it wasn't even us that was the recipient of the unsportsmanlike conduct, it was Purdue. Secondly, it basically lets the winner off the hook as far as having to win graciously and show good sportsmanship. It condones trash-talking and taunting the other team, because "if you don't like it, you should win the game." Someone brought this up after an apparent scuffle after we lost to Wisconsin in football this year. Someone said if we don't want the Badgers to taunt us, we should beat them. No accountability, no reason to be a good sport, mouth off to the opponent as much as you'd like, you won, and that entitles you to do whatever you want. That just doesn't seem right to me.

Mouthing off to the opposing team's coach, I don't know why you'd do that, the coach most likely wasn't taunting you, so not much reason to do that. Telling Robbie Hummel that you hope he tears his ACL again is pretty low.

I understand what you are saying and you make a good point. I may have made the post on the football board about the Badger scuffle you mentioned. My intention is not to say that winning makes their conduct right, rather I don't think they are going to care what the fan bases of teams they beat think, and that the only way Gopher Nation can hurt them (short of stooping to their level) is to beat them on the court.

Ok, sorry if I came off as a little harsh, just it almost seemed as if you supported their behavior. But I do agree, beating them would end it, although I feel that in this situation Purdue beating MSU would have been more effective than us beating them.

So true. Not directed at BMG, but in general. It is so prevalent in most all sports now days.

Sportsmanship has been declining at an alarming rate, starting with the pros and trickling down to college and high school.

fyi the guy that yelled to Hummel "Hope you tear your acl again" or whatever, Izzo is working on finding out who that is and having him removed from the izzone. He was told about it in the postgame and flipped out (as much as Izzo flips out) he has a TON of respect from Painter and Hummel. Izzo called Robbie in the hospital after his surgery and was pissed that some kid would say that. But again it was one idiot not the entire izzone as purdue fans would have you believe. It's being dealt with.

As for Dawson, he claims he was saying something to a guy on purdues bench as he ran by and Painter thought he was talking to him. Izzo again was pissed because he told Dawson to keep it cool during the game. The recruitment of Dawson between MSU and Purdue got heated and a lot of dirty stuff was said about dawson by Purdue fans and some stuff that is believed to have gone on behind the scenes (nothing dirty just not cool). He's a really good kid that you rarely see any emotion out of this was a rare event. Usually you'll see Dawson get a steal and a break out dunk and he runs back to get on defense looking like his dog just died. He's a very mellow guy. I think he was just a little extra amped to play against Purdue, not to mention the kid had been in a funk for a few games and was playing really well.
