Per Shama:

A source with knowledge inside the Athletic Department indicated it’s not known which direction Coyle will proceed. Other valued sources aren’t predicting an outcome either, but if pressed believe Coyle will give Johnson another year.

Regarding attendance at games, the Gophers drew a home sellout crowd last Wednesday for the first time since 2020. Public season ticket totals have been declining for years. As recently as 2019-2020 season tickets totaled 6,820. Next fall that total could be under 4,000.

Go Gophers!!

Shama neglects to say that there were less than 5000 Gopher fans on Wednesday with 8000-9000 other being Badger fans. What a joke when the opponents have far more fans than the home team. I can't believe that any AD in America would keep a coach who will continue to lower the interest in a revenue gaining sport. If Coyle won't fire Johnson, then the UMN president must fire Coyle and get someone who is competent.

I mean that's just not true. Were you there?

Yes, this isn't true at all. It was vast majority Gopher fans. Still, this is also why Ben has to make a change, and has to make a big hire that will bring people back. I gave up my season tix last spring, as did four friends of mine. Another friend is going to give up four great seats unless there is a change this spring. The good news is that all are ready to come back with a competent hire. Three of those are people who bought tix with excitement of Tubby hire, and kept them all the way through Pitino and one year of Ben before giving up.

Coyle can't let it get any worse... it has been as bad as ever in Williams Arena. It goes back to the last year of Monson since it was this bad. And, you can see people have wanted to come back - they showed up for the Penn State game, but then the team laid an egg. That's more than I intended. Bottom line - Coyle has to make a change next week when the season wraps up.

I'm ready for a change of coach too but you're crowd numbers are way off. Between 30-40 percent Cheeseheads. Still too many but not 9000.

CBJ is the 7th coach since the first year of my season tickets. Don't remember 1 coach that hired themselves. The athletic department and u of m administration is ultimately responsible for hiring the coaches and they had many chances during my time as a season ticket holder to hire the right coach. In the recent modern era Clem is arguable the most successful MBB coach and Clem's tenure as coach ended badly. Was excited to see Tubby hired and again his tenure ended badly too. There have been many successful coaches in P5 BB schools, and many stayed at their school until retirement, or they decided themselves to move on. But at the u of m they're fired due to lack of success. Fired by the very department and administration that hired them.

There was a time (b4 1993) that Williams Arena had 16,000 seat capacity and there were plenty of sellouts. Don't know how many season tickets were sold but it was more than 5,000.

If he's at all alarmed about season tickets being at an all time low, the decision should be obvious.

I wasn't there, so I accept being factually wrong. I was going by the large volume of noise from Badger fans compared to the cricket sound of Gopher fans while I watched on TV.
As I said in an earlier post, the Wisconsin fans were surprisingly quiet (even with the Gophers shooting free throws) until the last couple minutes. The Minnesota fans were engaged; passionate and loud.

This was exactly it. I don't know why, but compared to past years, the Badger fans weren't the least bit obnoxious or boistrous...at least until later in the game, when they got a little loud and bold. I don't know why they were so meek for so long, other than they might feel sorry for us.

Whatever happens, I'm going to try to look on the bright side. If Coyle brings Johnson back, at least there won't be throngs of people to deal with in the concourses like there were the other night, and it'll continue to be a breeze getting out of the ramp after the games. Furthermore, meaningful games are way too stressful, especially at my age. This would avert that problem. I've gotten used to low-stress, inconsequential games, and I think I might like it that way.
