I couldn't disagree more with Maturi. I think these two need to be dealt with hand-in-hand, even if that means delaying the practice facility until we know the future of The Barn.

Per Shama:

"Former Gophers athletic director Joel Maturi told Sports Headliners he favors a new basketball practice facility as a separate project from a new or renovated Williams Arena. Maturi’s position is the Gophers will need a modern practice facility when 84-year-old Williams Arena is torn down or renovated while playing home games at another building such as Target Center.

“I’ve said for five years Williams Arena has to be addressed,” Maturi said.

That assignment now will be for new University of Minnesota athletic director Norwood Teague. Maturi hopes to see an elevated floor be part of a new or renovated arena.

The University is spending $90,000 to ensure that the Williams Arena roof will bear the weight of the new scoreboard that will be in place for next season."

Go Gophers!!

More proof that Teague realizes Shama isn't worth his time and that Maturi has too much time on his hands.

"Maturi hopes to see an elevated floor be part of a new or renovated arena."

Why?

What is so important about an elevated floor.

Since Shama is irrelevant and Maturi is a do-nothing, when can we expect to see the FTB Maturi interview?

At this point, I would quit asking Maturi what he thinks.

It's considered a step above all other types of flooring.

I think it is somewhat inappropriate and poor form for Maturi to be publicly stating his opinions to the media in matters like this. If Teague elects to go another route with this project he doesn't need the former A.D. publicly disagreeing with him, especially when that former A.D. is still employed by the University.

Good point.

Part of Maturi's current job is to solicit funds from donors for uses such as a basketball practice facility. He should have an opinion that he's sharing on this, **if** he has cleared it with the AD (and President Kaler). "Hey Norwood, when I'm talking to people, I plan on saying that I think x and y should be a part of any new practice facility.. cool with you?"

That might be too much planning for these guys, but hopefully that would have occurred.

I can't wait until the plans to get such a project underway are in the "11th hour".

Good post. Especially the last line!
