Still amazed people were trying to claim that Tubby was getting a free pass and Brewster hadn't gotten enough credit last winter.

If watching Brew does nothing else, it makes one appreciate the good coaches we have in MN. Namely Gardy and Tubby. Both may occasionally do things that make you scratch your head (Gardy does this more then Tubby) but you should never forget that they have proven themselves and are universally respected by their peers. Further, you should never forget that it could be much, much worse.

And, perhaps more importantly, especially when things aren't always going well, dignity and humility make a big difference.

I like Tubby, but most of those people were making the comparisons during the season in a hypothetical world. I remember the debate it was predicated on "if the bball team makes the NIT" is there a huge difference between Brew's 6-6 Gophers and an NIT Big 10 basketball team? I don't think that debate is outrageous at all. To compare the two programs now is crazy, but yeah, if we went to the NIT last season coupled with our off the court problems, it was a fair question.

There is also the difference in that Brewster is one of the lowest paid coaches in the Big 10 and when we first signed Tubby he was the highest paid coach in the Big 10, so your expectations should be much higher.

My point isn't in defending Brewster, I am perfectly fine with him getting canned, it's what he deserves. But every season we don't make the NCAA should be a major disappointment for the U and it's fans and Tubby should get heat for that. For me, when you consider the amount that Tubby makes, going to the NIT for Tubby is about equal to the football team going .500, which was the original debate.

Comparing Brewster with Tubby? Well, one is one of the highest paid coaches in America and one is one of the lowest in BCS. Please, let's not go there. Tubby needs to do better and Brewster will be gone.

Good posts by Bob Loblaw and minngg. It's time for Tubby to take another step forward and it's time for the University to make a change in Football. I personally would like to keep the Football related posts on the Football board and be able to look forward to the Basketball season on this board.

No comment on Brewster but "True Dat" on Tubby.

Minnesota pays him very well, commensurate with the Top 10-15 coaches in Div I.

He had some good years in 2008 and 2009 but 2010 was a disappointment. 25+ W were expected.

Going forward, postseason play must include W (three straight One & Done in postseason) and Top 3-4 teams in Big 10. 25 W per season, most years.

2010 was a disappointment. However, IMO, no one should have expected Tubby to have done a much better job with the off court influences that minced that squad.

He might have monitored Nolan more closely and I was surprised that he hadn't. I don't what he could have done to prevent that loss.

Trevor's bizarre situation was not within Tubby's sphere of influence. That was the court system.

And Bizarre RW is just Bizarre RW and no one will likely change that.

There were mitigating factors but even with those, Gophers "should" have W over Mich St and Pur at home plus NWU and IU on the road. Either Miami FL or TAMU "should" have been W also.

The postseason string of 1 & Done has to improve.

I don't buy into to the Nolen deal. I listened to Tubby on the radio around the time it was going to happen and I really believe he allowed Nolen to decide what path he wanted to go down. I applaud the way he handled it. He basically said the resources are there, if Nolen doesn't want to use them, so be it, we aren't going to baby him.

I think 2010 was Tubby's best year coaching since coming to MN. I'd say going to the tourney 2 years in a row is a big deal for us.. Also, we have beaten all the teams which we couldn't beat previously (MSU, Illinois, Wisky). I think he is building a great program and has met expectations. Yes, he needs to keep producing and make a run now and then, but no problems with Tubby.

Brew on the other hand.....

He and the team rallied nicely from mid-February on but better W-L numbers were there for the taking.

So far, so (pretty) good but need to do better. Need to compete for and win Big 10 titles and tourneys. Need to W some NCAA games. Need to put players into the NBA - that's BIG for recruiting.

Not sure it's Tubby's job to be academic adviser

I'm completely happy with Tubby. Some of you forget that his Big 10 tourny run helped the Gophers NCAA bid. Anyone remember how we made it into the Big Ten championship game for the first time ever last year?

While I expect an NCAA berth every year Tubby is our coach from here on out.. I just can't fathom how he 'needs to feel the heat'. WTF are we, Kentucky?
