My two cents: Red shirt Green and have Mitch play next year again. And then him and Demry Croft will presumably fight for the starting spot in the summer of 2017. No guarantee by any means that Seth Green beats out Demry either.

Yes, I'll bet he redshirts, he's still pretty raw. I'm guessing Leidner starts next year (with Croft as backup & Green redshirting), Croft then starts 2 years (with Green as backup), then Seth starts 2 years, but you never know.

Of course it affects his future. Demry went from having no competition when Mitch graduates to having a ton.

Agree 100%. With very few exceptions - QBs and OLs should be red shirted. Seth may end up being GREAT, but I don't think he is ready to play B1G football now and I'm still excited to see what Demry can do.
 

This is good news. Green is a solid athlete and hopefully he develops into a great player.

Crazy thought....maybe we wait until he actually gets here and shows what he can do. Hopefully he is in a position to redshirt next year but if he wins the job he wins the job.

I don't care how many haters this kid has on this board. I am excited. Biggest QB signing since Quis. Raw but all the tools to be a stud. Huge weekend for the Gophers.

If Demry loses job he may look to transfer. But let's play it out

Best case scenario-Demry and Seth both redshirt this year.

This commit provides depth. Just because the Gophers get a good commit this year doesn't mean the previous year's recruit is pushed to the side. More competition!

Virtually no chance Demry redshirts next year. They are however taking two QBs this year so Green and Keon Howard could both RS.
 

I keep seeing the word "Raw" being used to describe him. He's been a starting HS QB now for four years. He's even been a starting QB at a big time HS program in the state of Texas for God's sake. There are not many QBs in HS that start four years - would guess <5%.

The last thing he should be is "Raw." It's actually troubling to me to see this word used with him. If he's had more experience than every other QB out there, and he's still "raw," then I actually don't see a lot of upside for him improving.

If Mitch plays well, there's no need for Demry to play. Which in essence would be a redshirt.

I know I am kind of hoping we find ourselves in some games where we are up big enough to pull the starters next year so even if Mitch is playing well I would expect Croft to play some as well. Also depending on who ends up being the new OC they might come up with a package for Croft in order to get him some reps as well.
