Sent Maturi an anti-Kill rant - Here's his cryptic response

I've e-mailed Maturi 4 or 5 times in the last 8 years and he has always replied within a half hour. So I decided to send him a rant about how Jerry Kill was a bad hire to see if he would reply with anything. This is what he replied with....

What's cryptic about that? He's telling you to make your choice, I guess.
 


this is for sure a Maturi response, its his go to line when people tell him they are dropping the program from their lives, I just got the same thing
 



If you're bailing because we hired Kill you were never a fan in the first place... Quit being such a dramatic teenager and remember that part of supporting our beloved gophers is learning to live with disappointment. Also please remove the sand from between your legs.

this is whats sad about being a gopher fan. 95% of the fan base is OK with this line of thought.
 




canned response ftl. someone email him with a question so that response would be a bad thing, see if it changes? :lol:
 

I did the same thing about Jerry Kill and reconsidering my season tickets and financial support. Also mentioned chryst.

We have been thorough in our process and feel good about our future. Certainly you can make your personal decision as to supporting the Gophers no matter who we hire.

I wasn't serious in the e-mail, I just was curious to see what his response would be.

I actually like Joel, and if this was the best he could do, then he should save himself the abuse and walk away. He's got Lucia and Borton to deal with next. Sid said the criticism has been hard on his family. Jerry Kill is not what he needed. Poor guy promised "A Tubby Smith Hire". I can't imagine he looks forwards to facing the music with savegopherfootball.com after this one. The golf cart gig outside of TCF on game days might be a tougher task next year.

I will send Joel Maturi an email in support of Jerry Kill if he is hired. No one will force you to attend games. This program is not elite and does not have the resources to compete with other elite programs at this present time. I personally have been very impressed with Jerry Kill and his accomplishments at at least 3 different football programs. He seems to have very good running offense and his defenses are always respectable. He is a no frills football coach who is very respected by his players and assistant coaches. I like him a lot. He appears to be a plain spoken , down to earth midwestern guy.

We have to be realistic with ourselves... We are not a helmet school, so when our AD gets us all dreaming about our new coaching hire there is going to be some disappointment involved. It sucks that we resign ourselves to this but it is the truth and it needs to be confronted. Accepting it is not embracing the reality...

Quotation marks are usually saved for quotations. Maturi did not say that. You interpreted that.

Real solid overreaction, though.
 

The intentional misunderstanding of the Tubby Smith hire thing is getting real old.

No but it is a reason to not expect someone to leave a top ten school to come coach here

thank-you, I think Kill can do a very nice job for us.
 

Not sure about anything cryptic. That's how he answers a lot of his e-mails especially when things are really busy.

Now if, instead of "Happy Hollidays", he had said "Merry Chrystmas"....... now we can talk about cryptic.

Just because we've settled on a coach before and it hasn't worked out, doesn't mean it won't work at this time either, right?

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Let's see who it is before we react, but both of the names being tossed out tonight are underwhelming and Chryst to me says we couldn't convince anyone that fit the criteria Joel laid out and that there are bigger problems in the AD and we need a director that can actually play on a national level.
 

Well I sent him an e-mail asking when the announcement would happen.

He then told me who the coach was because I asked so nicely :)

Seriously - he said announcement soon.

I have emailed Joel many times and Prexy B a couple of times and always gotten a response...Joel is ussually quicker but even Prexy responds. Of course I haven't emailed anything as dumb as I am done with supporting my almamater if you don't do what I want...but hey, YMMV.
 

Joel's always responded to me. I'm always polite though.
