Senior night is almost here and we say goodbye to two great Gophers.
Trevor Mbakwe, who only played one of his three seasons here, was our first legitimate NBA draft pick in a long time, a likely all big ten first team selection, and possible player of the year candidate. He brought hope and excitement to the team and fans. He was a great chemistry guy and could ignite the crowd much like Rodney Williams. A great leader and a great player. Barring a miraculous 6th year, he was a great player for this program in one year more so than many guys are in a full career.
Despite all of the crap RS3 gets on here, he cracked 1,000 points last night, 500 rebounds and 200 blocks. I don't care who you are, that is a great stat line. He always handled himself with class and was a great representative of this University. Despite his lack of leadership and outward emotion, I think he really gave his all to this school and team and that should always be appreciated! He is also the only member of his recruiting class that stuck with this and never have up on this school and team and that should be commended.
Let's close this season out with a win. Fans need to be loud as we've ever been, even if you hate Tubby, do it for the players who have busted their butts for the school and team we love.
I hope that Tubby has the fire in his belly on Saturday as well and he contributes to getting the crowd fired up. Everyone needs to bring it Saturday, even though the post season is pretty much over, let's find some positive and bring it for the pride of this great school and team!
And student section, just because this isn't against a top 10 team or a hated rival, bring the A game. Come up with the most creative chants possible and really intimidate the Nebraska players and welcome them to the big 10 with a sweep and get ready for next season on a positive note!
