Now that the season is officially over, when do we expect to hear about transfers, defections, etc? It would be nice to know the final available scholarship count...determine just how much work Tubby still has to do.

There was a quote associated to "someone inside the program" that stated that the Gophers have as many scholarships as they need.

I don't think we will get a firm count as a current player or players may get "help" in finding a new school if the staff finds some rercruits they like.

As of now we are technically full for next season, but Trevor could turn pro and the scenario I mentioned above could free up scholarships too.

Just a question with the latest transfer talk, but how do transfers count against scholarships?

If a player transfers this year (and sits out) does he take this years scholarship (I believe this is correct) or a scholarship next year from Ralph, Trevor or Colton?

Just curious.

Purdue 2010; JaJuan and E'Twaun declared around April 12 and undeclared around May 8

I was wondering the same thing so I Googled JaJuan Johnson for last year and found this; "Apr 12, 2010 - Purdue's JaJuan Johnson declares early for the NBA Draft" and it was unofficially official on May 8th that he was staying at Purdue for one more year.

E'Twaun Moore declared on the same day and decided to stay a day after JaJaun...
So we won't know about Mbakwe or Sampson till sometime in May it sounds like...
My understanding is if a player like Mbakwe or Sampson went pro then their scholarship would be available in the fall for a new recruit. Just like when Paul Carter left and Oto got his scholarship...

If a guy is on scholarship, transfer or not, at your school during the academic year, it counts against the max scholarships. i.e., if we had a transfer coming in and he started classes this fall, but had to sit out the entire 2011-12 season, and he was on a bball scholarship, that would count against the max scholarships available.

The date you needed to withdraw last year was May 8, so Moore had to have withdrawn by then (i.e., was not the 9th). The date is the same this year, but very likely will change next year (may very well be pushed into April). So, the date you're looking for is May 8, 2011. That's the latest you'll know if anyone who declared for the NBA draft subsequently withdraws..

If a player isn't in school during 2011-12, then he won't use a scholarship.

Do we know of the current players on the roster who might remain a "walk-on"...ie Chris Halvorsen? By the way, not much is mentioned of him? What's his game and could he be a factor next season?

I know very little about Halvorsen's game. Not sure of his impact.

He is remaining a walk-on to my knowledge as is Dawson.

Chris Halvorsen

"Halvorsen will likely provide athleticsm and depth with the team. He will sit out the 2010-11"

Probably a good kid and I'm happy to have him as part of the team, but unless he's significantly improved since high school he won't be seeing any minutes at all anytime soon. If he's a hard worker maybe he'll get spot minutes later in his career depending on our roster and depth at power forward.
