Question: Is the University of Minnesota required to have a search committee to conduct a search for a head coach? If so, how would it be populated? Is there a state law or an administrative rule that requires a search committee?

Go Gophers!!

My guess is that it will be a private firm that is hired to do the search. They typically do a pretty comprehensive and exhaustive search. It ends up being the choice of the athletic department, but the firm will have a strong recommendation. In addition, they keep things very hush-hush throughout the entire process.

NO!!!! (I Don't Know In Fact - But Praying So)

Target a real "kill shot". Send ONE PERSON - with a suitcase of money and 2 index cards that read:

1. What will it take for you to be the next head football coach of the Golden Gophers?

2. I'm not leaving until you say, "Yes!"

If brew is gone this will be handled just like it was after Mason with a private firm doing all the leg work and coming up with candidates. Brewster will probably be on their list again. So will Kragthorpe former Louisville, Johnson at Georgia Tech, Dennis Erickson at ASU. All coaches that have underachieved but were A list guys at the time.

If those are the names that the search committee came up with last time, even given hindsight being 20/20, I'd hope we at least go with another search committee.

I basically agree. How much cash can you carry on a flight to Palo Alto?

There should be NO ADMINISTRATION OR TEACHINGS STAFF other than the Pres. We need football people . Tony Dungy would be a perfect person to head up the search if he would do it. I know he doesn't want to be AD or coach, but maybe he would do this. We have alot of "M" men who know football and have alot of pro and college exp. We can do a heck of a better job than a search committee that has all kind of agents pushing their guy.
