The best PBP guy in the country Sean McDonough will be in Happy Valley on Saturday. Also with him will be the best sideline reporter out there, Holly Rowe.

Too bad Matt Millen will be joining McDonough in the booth. That's like dipping your perfectly-seasoned and grilled filet mignon in a pile of ketchup.

Agree about Sean. Great announcer for all sports. Great job with the Gopher hockey title game vs UNH.

I actually like Millen in the booth.

He is more effective in the booth than the war room.

Well played!

I was sad to see them split up the Sean McDonough/Chris Spielman team. For my money, that was ESPN's best combo. Spielman is the best and Herbstreit is there with him. Must be something about those OSU guys.

McDonough is perfectly stated - gets excited when necessary without going overboard and isn't afraid to offer an opinion if necessary.

Millen is great in the booth.

And I love him for tearing apart the Lions and giving the Vikings 2 more wins each year.

I hate listening to Sean McDonough. Monotone (even when he's excited), and I'm pretty sure he'll read anything you put in front of his face ("I'm Sean McDonough?"). Huge benefit to being at the game will be not having to listen to Sean.

Let's get to the crux of the matter. How good looking is Holly Rowe?

Monotone? You must not listen to him. He was let go from CBS in 1999 for being too excitable - and although he's toned it down a little he's still WAY more excitable than most announcers. He doesn't scream on every play like a Tom Hamilton type, but that's just fine by me. He certainly gets up for the key moments in a game.

I say I hate listening to Sean McDonough, and you come back with an onslaught of Sean McDonough clips. Think I'll pass. Just jam an ice pick in my ear!

To each his own, but I think he's boring, and adds nothing to the broadcast.

We think the same thing about your posts. But, to each his own.

Wow...apparently not...

Wait! What? You said you hate listening to him because to you, he's MONOTONE. I provided several examples of clips of him being more excitable than other announcers are in similar play-by-play situations. You could even argue quite easily that the examples from the other announcers are bigger games and bigger situations than the McDonough calls - yet Sean is MORE excitable than the others.

You can say you don't like him - fine. You're entitled to your opinion. But don't use faulty logic when trying to prove your point.

And I said that even when he's excited, he's still got that monotone sound. It's the stuffed up, droning sound to his voice that is absolutely grating.

The first week of this season, I was in the press box at a baseball game, and whatever game McDonough was working was on TV in the background. Two broadcasters, a beat writer and I all paused to listen to him for about 10 seconds recite some linebacker's high school stats before launching into a conversation about why we can't stand him. Who knows, maybe we're the only four who don't care for his work.

Regardless, you enjoy listening to Sean on Saturday, and I'll enjoy not having to from my seat in Beaver Stadium. We both win.

While it's nice that he's not Pam Ward, Sean McDonough isn't great.

When it comes to announcers it's Uncle Verne, then a drop, then Ron Franklin, then a huge drop, then everyone else.
