Sean Ferguson

It's not as shocking as it seems he was OL in high school and got converted to DL at prep school.

Given his measurables, OL does seem like a better fit for him.

Ferguson was moved to the OL during workouts last month. My guess is that he doesn't have the quickness and explosion that Claeys will demand of his defensive linemen.

When we recruited Ferguson, we had changed our recruiting philosophy to DTs who were tall and really strong to play Cosgrove's gap control defense, where the DT's basically plug specific gaps, protect the linebackers, and make it hard to throw over them. A taller version of Garrett Brown would be perfect for that defense, in fact Garrett was pretty close to perfect for it and we missed him a lot last year.
That defense also did not play to the strengths of any of the current players, who are more quick DTs than immovable ones like GB. Eventually Jacobs got to be good at it, because he is huge, but he could be better in this one if he adapts.
