I'm excited to see how my old high school, Frederick, and its co-op partner, Leola, will do this fall. They have made it to the state semi-finals each of the last two years, so I'm hoping that they can use that experience and break through to the finals this year. That would be Frederick's first trip to the Dome since 1982, and Leola's first trip ever, if I'm not mistaken.

How about you all? Who are you hoping makes a trip to Vermillion this November?

Sub Dural Hematoma and Scab Accumulation Activities?

dpodoll, you should never give anyone grief about starting a thread on any topic after starting one on this.

Go Eureka/Bowdle. Suck it Frederick/Leola. Wait? I thought it was Fredrick/Hecla?

Complains about discussing Minnesota high school football on a Gophers message board, then STARTS a thread about South Dakota high school football. Wow.

Good luck DP, I hear Gayville-Volin, and Oldham-Ramona are stacked this year. Getting to Vermtown won't be a cakewalk!

Hecla HS closed a few years ago (2004?). Most of the Hecla kids went to Britton, which is now Britton/Hecla HS. Some came to Frederick, which is now part of the "Leola/Frederick Titans". I don't like it, but what do you do?

I think a few people missed the point.

Yep ... but imo the point is silly - assuming the point is that we shouldn't be discussing MN HS football news on this board. I think the number of threads it produces is minimal and it is part of the whole football scene in our state. I'd have no problem seeing a HS thread now and then (and choose to ignore it if I don't want to comment). Vikings, no.

Does Oldham-Ramona seriously have a team? I recall the entire school being maybe 30 kids.

They co-op with Rutland, and Joe made a good joke, because their team is seriously terrible every year. They did manage to win 2 games this year, but that 2-game winning streak was preceded by a 36-game losing streak that stretched back to 2006.

I'm sure everyone has had a moment on this board where they didn't catch some sarcasm. This seems like a really tough one to miss, though.

Some of these schools west of I-29 and east of the foothills will seriously need to consider dropping football or replacing one of the 8 9-man classes with 7 or 6 man football.

I vote for making it 9-member co-ed teams of flag football.

Here is the way it is lined up on offense:

F M F M F (Offensive line)
M (QB under center)

M F M (Any variation of backfield)

Defense must play a 5F 4M everytime, no more than 2 M on the Defensive line.

No blocking below the waist ever, and no tackling allowed.

Females must be Head Coaches, Males must be the Cheerleader Advisers.

No admission is to be charged, but a Free Will Offering will be split equally by the two teams.

Pregame prayers will be led by the Assistant Coach(es).

All other rules from the National Football Rules Book will apply.

Now this plan would bring the SDSHAA notoriety.

If notoriety is what they want, your plan will do it!

P.S. Happy 35th anniversary Dr. Don ;)

It looks like its:
9-Man B A AA
11-Man B A AA

It looks like its:
9-Man B A AA
11-Man B A AA

So that is 6 classes?

I hope people can look at this and realize that the number of classes in a given state is less determined by number of schools or population...and more determined by the disparity of the sizes of schools in a given state.

SD 11-man AA has all of 8 schools in it IIRC. Getting to the State Championship is really quite a feat.

But at the rate MN is going they'll be there soon too.

It is sixteen, actually. It is comprised of all the schools with grades 9-11 student populations of 450 or above. And in all non-football sports, Class A consists of schools/co-ops with 9-11 enrollments between 90 and 450. So, theoretically, schools/co-ops in that class can play other schools/co-ops that are almost 5 times their size.

In 9-man football, all the schools have 9-11 ADM (average daily membership) of 112 or less, so they are all small schools and they could easily make do with having one, or at most two, 9-man classes. In fact, when I was in high school, the 9AA class didn't exist, and we had only two classes. They introduced the 9AA class in 1999 - probably a compromise catering to the "everyone gets a trophy" lobby.

DP, there is acutally alot of talk down here about going to an 11AAA division. That would include all of the Sioux Falls schools/O'Gorman and Rapid City schools plus Brookings and either Yankton or Aberdeen. If it happens, which it probably will, there will be 8 teams in each of the top two biggest divisions. Talk about a everyone getting a trophy.

EDIT- Rumor has it that the eight teams would play each other during the regular season to determine seedings in the playoffs, which obviously everyone would make, and then in essence consist of replaying the same schedule. The difference being that once you lost your done.
