I seem to remember Northern Ill. hurting us with screen passes when they played up here a few years ago. I can't remember seeing us throw a screen pass under Kill. ?????

We did yesterday. Kirkwood bounced it outside for no gain. No more screen passes, lol.

We've thrown a few this year. They haven't worked as far as big gains, but they haven't been terrible.

Don't need those fancy plays with QB draw and read option working so well.

That wasn't a screen pass, it was a simple swing pass to the flat. A screen pass is specifically designed to allow the defenders to penetrate past the point of attack so you screen pass beyond the penetration and get downfield, taking advantage of a defense's over pursuit. We have run very few true screen passes that I remember this year and frankly, it has been a troubling concern. Football Coaching 101 dictates that when facing an aggressive, blitz-happy team, you run screen passes. We have faced a lot of blitzing and very few screens to combat it. We could have screened Illinois to death and didn't run a single one. Again, don't confuse a swing pass to a RB in the flat (as we run) for a well-designed, well-conceived screen pass (which we haven't).

I've watched every game and haven't really noticed one. I only brought this up because it seemed to be a real staple of Northern Ill's offense when we played them.

Saving it up for the bowl game, so we can use it as a trick play.
