Question: The Gophers rank last among Big Ten teams in total offense, averaging 331.8 yards per game. Why are they 5-1?
Answer: Great question. The offense didn't play all that well through non-conference play, and the stats weren't too impressive in last week's Northwestern win. They are a ball-control team and rank 15th in the county in scoring defense, allowing 18.7 points per game. They are very good on special teams and are second in the Big Ten in turnover margin, at plus-six.
Q: We don't hear David Cobb's name mentioned when discussing the Big Ten's top running backs. Should Cobb be part of that group with Indiana's Tevin Coleman, Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon and Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah?
A: I think Coleman, Gordon and Abdullah have bigger highlight-reel plays, and let's face it, those are three of the top four running backs in the country. But Cobb is so valuable to this team. He was good last year and has taken his game to another level this year. He's very explosive through the hole, has excellent vision and does a good job making something out of nothing, when he has to. A total workhorse..
