freshman running back Lamonte Edwards (Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year)
freshman defensive end Cameron Botticelli (Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year)
freshman defensive end Ben Perry (Special Teams Scout Team Player of the Year)

I am wondering about Cameron Botticelli. Any idea if this walk-on will get playing time next year?

Botticelli is going to be playing DT and there are some opportunities for him to get some PT. It is kind of a deep position.

Assuming Edwards is gone, I'd imagine Tauaefa/Hageman or even possibly Jacobs will be starting next to Kirksey. Botticelli will be competing with Hahn, Ferguson, Legania and Jacques for PT. I am not sure how Ferguson, Legania or Jacques looked, so he could emerge for some PT with Hahn, but we'll see.

Botticelli had several offers coming out of high school, FCS school's, but choose to walk on at the U even though his Rivals profile indicated he had "high interest" in Wisconsin, his home state. Not sure why it played out the way it did for him but I hope he has an axe (get it) to grind with his home state and whopes up on them Badgers over the next few years.

I remember that he was angry at the way the Wisconsin coaches were treating him. It could have been that they wanted him to walk on and he thought he should get a scholarship. He does have great credentials per the following from the Gopher football roster web site:

"Earned first-team all-state honors from the Associated Press and Wisconsin Football Coaches Association • also named first-team all-conference, all-area and all-region • helped lead his team to a 2009 Division I state championship and a 14-0 record • named area Player of the Year by Time-Warner Cable • recorded 121 tackles, 10 sacks, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries last season • also caught three passes for 48 yards and a score • team was 33-5 over the last three seasons • coached by Dick Basham."

From the above and his performance on the scout team it seems very likely that he will be a contributor next year and maybe a very good one.

I bet Edwards looked good playing the part of the Wisconsin backs in that power running game.

I'm picking up what your throwing down. :)

Let's fill that cabinet up!

Stats look great, sound like a kid the Wisconsin coaches just did not project to either grow enough or be fast enough to play at the next level. Hope he does great.

I kind of remember it that way as well. Could be Wisconsin "expected" him to walk on and basically ignored him. Sounds like he's a hard-working kid who could develop into a solid contributor and perhaps even more.
