per Chip:

Big Ten athletic directors made a pinky-swear agreement last year that their schools would not schedule football games against FCS opponents anymore.

Existing contracts would be honored, but moving forward, no more playing teams from a smaller weight class, formerly Division I-AA.

Hallelujah!

The Gophers cleared one of those games off their calendar Saturday by thrashing Indiana State 58-28 before lots of empty seats at TCF Bank Stadium.

An outdoor college football game on a gorgeous fall Saturday is never a bad way to spend an afternoon. In terms of competitiveness, this game had as much suspense as the Harlem Globetrotters vs. the Washington Generals.

Playing FCS opponents puts Power Five teams in a no-win situation. They basically get no credit if they win, and they get lambasted if they lose.

As the saying goes, it is what it is.

Go Gophers!!

Gopher could have scheduled numerous FCS opponents for a tough game. You chose Indiana State. That's on MN, not FCS football. I can give you a long list of FBS opponents you beat by 30 also. Dumb article. You chose IN State, that's on you.

If you are scheduling an FCS foe, you are not scheduling for a good game. You are scheduling for a win and a home game. If you were trying to schedule a competitive game it would make no sense to schedule an FCS team.

What does Iowa get if they beat NDSU next week? Nothing. They would be better off playing against Akron or Louisiana Monroe.

As I have always stated, scheduling an FCS school is the equivalent of those high school boys who end up having to wrestle the girl from the other school who made the wrestling team. If you win, you're mocked for beating a girl. If you lose, you're mocked mercilessly for losing to a girl.

And the Twin Cities media continues to ridicule the Gophers for scheduling a vastly inferior opponent in the non-conference.

Meanwhile LSU played Jacksonville St yesterday, Northwestern played Illinois St, Alabama played Western Kentucky and Wisconsin plays Georgia St next week.

I don't particularly like watching games against over matched opponents either but this is a Power Five conference issue, not a Gophers issue as the Twin Cities media would like everyone to believe.

How'd that work out for Northwestern? They didn't schedule Indiana State. Guess they should have scheduled a crappy MAC team, not a good FCS team.

They lost to scrappy mac team as well

Chip is simply pointing out that on a beautiful day, that's the opponent the Gophers/Big 10 offered up. He's glad these games are coming to an end.

What are they going to write about when you win by 30 over crappy FBS teams. Crappy football is crappy football, it has nothing to do with being FBS or FCS. You get what you schedule.

Too bad that Alabama doesn't play Purdue. Then they could write articles how the Sec should stop playing the B1G after they win by 50. That's the logic you are applying.

They were in the playoffs two years ago. ISU is a decent team in by far the toughest SEC conference.NDSU SDSU UNI Illinois State are good programs that they will face. I believe the once dominant Youngstown State is in that league too along with USD. Should the gophs crush them yes but this isn't the SEC feasting on Savannah State or an overmatched Charleston Southern or Prairie View A&M

Well, not really, but it would take too long to explain to you.

I'm just happy I'll get to watch UND start spanking you again. Wasn't that long ago you couldn't beat them and they were winning the titles. Won't be that long again...

Take it the Iowa board. We're done with our crappy FCS team this season. They still have a game coming up against a crappy FCS team.
