I received my season ticket renewal today and like most of you I have a sour taste in my mouth about the scholarship donation. I noticed it said we are in year 2 of 3 and went on to say what I would pay in 2016 and 2017. Has the U ever said what will happen in Year 4? Does it stay the same? Go up? Go Down?

It stays the same. I'm surprised that you're surprised because they have been sending out info for the last 2 years on what you will be paying each year.

I was never surprised. They have done a good job of saying how much in year 1, year 2, year 3, but unless I have missed it, I have never heard anything about year 4 and after.

If they do anything then, most likely it would be a ticket price increase.

Yeah the scholarship increase numbers have been on the website for a while now, you don't even have to login to see it. Whole price is right there.

OP never said or implied he was surprised. Why let facts disrupt a good rant tho.

Thanks... I still don't know if I actually got an answer in this thread. I can't find it anywhere what the scholarship donation is in year four. I know, like everyone else, the U laid out a three year plan. I know exactly how much I paid in 2015 (year 1), and will pay in 2016 (year 2) and 2017 (year 3). I have not heard how much I will pay in 2018 (year 4).

I doubt even the U knows yet. They might increase in 2018 and might not.

This. Very seldom are prices announced a year in advance let alone 3 years. The increases announced for '15, '16 and '17 were only made because of the substantial "sticker-shock" reaction that the overall increase would, and did, generate.

The gradual 3 year increase plan was put in place to bring donation levels up to par. My understanding is that it will stay at the year 3 amount from that point on.

Yep and the decision at that point will most likely be tied to demand. If the team is winning and the fans are coming I would expect some sort of modest increase, if the team is struggling and the fans haven't come back or stuck around through the 3 years of increases then things will most likely stay the same or even drop a little.

I thought I already mentioned it stays the same. They just raised it to adjust....adjusting to the 3rd highest in the B1G.

You may end up being correct but I don't think they have mentioned 2018 pricing. It could change. Don't assume it will be the same just because they have not mentioned the pricing.

I'm not "assuming". It was actually mentioned when this first came out that there were no plans of price movement after the 2017 increase. I also have a contact in GopherSports that confirmed.

Just because there are no "plans" for price movement when the increases were announced last year does not mean that ticket prices couldn't be increased. The A.D. who nursed that plan along has already been fired.

Plans can change.

Is "assuming" now like "donation"?

I agree - Not trying to be snarky. I was just answering the question on what I heard the current direction is.

might as well say it now.

you have an agreement with the U that the seats you had in 2015 are yours until you tell them otherwise. in a few months, someone will post here - "i'm gonna move down and take your seats!" that is hogwash and argle bargle

In year 4 ticket prices will increase and the reason will be they have held the same ticket prices for over 3 years

Mark me down as one of the long time loyal fans that will be watching from the couch from now on!

Spent many days tailgating and screaming in the stands and now I just cant justify the donation and would rather watch it on TV than move to other seating and give up my nice lower level seat back spot i earned by purchasing the tickets when this squad never competed on the field

almost feel better going to an away game than spending money on forced donations, giving other Big Ten schools the revenue

I'll be renewing this year. I'll hold off any decision for 17 until another year.

The donations aren't forced. You've just said that you aren't renewing, so how can you make the argument that you're being forced to do anything? Also, ticket and scholarship seating revenue aren't shared with other schools. Please continue your baseless rants, though.

So are you saying you can opt out of paying the "donation" and just pay the ticket fee to keep your seats?

I find most your literal interpretations amusing - this one is just old, tiresome, and ridiculous.

Ultimately, everyone has to decide how to spend - or not spend - their discretionary income. If you enjoy going to Gopher games, and feel the expense is reasonable within your budget, more power to you.

On the other hand, if you feel the expense is not warranted or reasonable within your budget, that is your choice - and IMHO, no one on this board should question that decision, or question your status as a fan. I would never dream of telling someone else how to spend their money. And anyone who tries to tell me how to spend my money will get a two word response. (the second word is "you." you can guess what the first word is.....)

Thank?

Seriously, too measured of a response for GH!

Everyone who keeps their tickets wants validation from others that it was the right thing to do.

Everyone who ditches their tickets wants validation from others that it was the right thing to do.

This is the most re-hashed topic on this board.

So are you saying you can opt out of paying the "donation" and just pay the ticket fee to keep your seats?

The donation (not "donation") is part of the cost of renewing tickets in certain areas. If you don't want to donate, don't renew the tickets. No one is being forced to do anything. The donation and ticket purchase are both 100% voluntary. Simple.
