One of the nation’s most surprising teams in the 2019 season was the University of Minnesota. The Gophers started 9-0 and were ranked as high as No. 7 in the Associated Press Top 25 before losing two of their final three in the regular season – including a Big Ten West Division winner-take-all game at home against Wisconsin.

Still, Minnesota won a school-record 11 games – after beating Auburn in the Outback Bowl – in large part thanks to quarterback Tanner Morgan. He’s probably the second-best returning quarterback in the Big Ten for the 2020 season behind Ohio State’s Justin Fields and is +5000 betting with BetOnline to be the school’s second all-time Heisman winner.

Minnesota’s first Heisman winner was running back Bruce Smith in 1941 – he received the Heisman just two days after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Smith was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1972. The Gophers won a second straight national title that ’41 season but frankly hadn’t been nationally relevant since until last year under Morgan and rising superstar coach PJ Fleck.

Go Gophers!!
