I just posted a story on Sanjay Lumpkin, a 6-foot-5, 185-pound rising junior forward from St. Louis Park (MN) Benidle St. Margaret’s, who is one of the state’s top players in the Class of 2012. Lumpkin has plenty of ties to Minnesota, where his father played college football. His dad, Sean, was an All Big Ten Second Team selection as a junior and was first team as a senior in 1991. Lumpkin, who served as a team captain his senior year, won the Bronko Nagurski Award (Team MVP) and Carl Eller Award (Outstanding Defensive Player).
Sanjay Lumpkin also has ties to the basketball program as his mother, Tika, is currently married to former Gopher Jim Peterson, who was named Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball in 1980 and was the first McDonald’s All-American from Minnesota. He went on to be a four-year letter winner at Minnesota and was a member of the Gophers’ 1982 Big Ten Championship team.
