San Diego State to play San Diego at Petco - in basketball

The San Diego State-USD men’s basketball series, which appeared headed for hiatus, lives.

At Petco Park.

Numerous sources confirmed the schools have agreed to a one-year contract to play outdoors in early December at the downtown baseball stadium, in a similar configuration that hosted tennis’ Davis Cup last year and will seat up to 20,000. It will be SDSU’s second game in the elements in four years, having opened the 2012-13 season against Syracuse on the USS Midway aircraft carrier in San Diego Bay.

An outdoor basketball game in early December sounded nuts until I remembered that it was in San Diego, where winter isn't a thing.
