When the Gophers HAD to move the ball they couldn't; when they HAD to stop Northwestern, they couldn't. Everything else is in the moral victory category, which is wearing thin after 43 years. I'm sure we'll hear a lot this week from Sid and gang about how good the Gophers looked and how they are on their way, and the system works, etc. Bottom line is 1-4, with 2-10 a season possibility. Joel, make Mark Richt or someone at his level an offer they can't refuse...

Northwestern was more or less passing at will. Our corners were giving their WR's a good 8-10 yard cushion and Persa was happy to take a 7 yard gain over & over & over again. Also it looks like there's a hole in our coverage over the middle for there were multiple plays where there was a receiver wide open in the middle of the field and we got burned for 10+ yards. We're still having tackling issues as well.

It's almost looks like we go into a prevent defense on passing plays. We're so scared of giving up the big play that we let the opposing QB take 5-10 yards per gain regularly.

I think it had just as much to do with our defense not getting any pressure on the QB. The no-huddle was killing our DL. They were huffing and puffing out there all game.

I've noticed that during the first half they were passing at will against us. Then after halftime, our guys made some defensive changes and started getting a bit better on the coverage. But let Persa run all over us. Tough to cover both the pass AND the run with a guy that has a 80% completion rate.

If the season were going to have any chance of being saved, this was a must win game.

Brewster has to go, I think everyone is in agreement on that. The thing that scares me is the prospect of Maturi hiring a replacement. I have no trust in Joel to make the right hire (we've seen how Brewster has turned out). If the program is going to get where it claims it wants to be, I think a new AD has to be part of the equation as well.

Fair points GIA & Formo. We did a little better with when they ran the option in the 2nd half as well I thought.

worst de's in the country, worst offensive play calls in the country, worst 5th year qb who is also starting for his 4th straight year to ever play in the big ten.

Meh.. I'm not so much against Maturi as most. Yes, he is known as the AD that brought in Brewster, passing on Patterson, Pelini and even Kiffin in the process (maybe even more that I can't think off the top of my head). That's excusable in my book, because he was also the AD that brought football back on campus with the best stadium in the country, he's brought in Tubby (a STEAL, lets be honest), and I honestly think that with his 'Big Ten first' attitude in the conference division alignment meetings, he helped Minnesota become a winner to retain our major 3 rivalries and potentially renew another (Nebraska). He's not that bad of a guy. He effed up big time with Brew. I'm pretty sure he's aware his situation (with the new 'U' president coming in soon) and he knows the football hire better be a home run.

I'm willing to give him another chance to redeem himself and the football program. He's deserved that much, IMO.

2003 seems so long ago yet so far away at the same time...

Worst defensive coordinator in the country too...

Tubby knocked on his door and asked if he could come in. All Maturi did was let him in. Stop giving him credit for Tubby.

I love it when the haters bring their superlatives to the party...worst this and worst that...frankly, I enjoyed the game...I enjoy the type of football we are playing on offense and we are getting better.

That said, our defense is too passive and as long as we are going to give up big plays anyways...we might as well blitz and get after them...so we get more big plays in our favor too...the game management and play calling in the last 5 minutes of the game is unexcusable after 3 plus years!

I am revising my previous statements...if we don't win 4 big ten games...Brew has to go...he can't coach on the field at all.

I'm sure you've heard worse about better teams in Philly. People are a little down obviously...
