Sallys is officially closed as part of the "remodel" and construction of the new apartment building. Was definitely a popular pregame favorite.

There needs to be a long-winded rant with lots of "Prexys" and "MACturis" about this.

Stop with the apartments! I think around ten new luxury apartment complexes is enough.

More people living on campus! Terrible!

I'm all about saving historic architecture, but the Sally's building was an '80s monstrosity. Might as well replace it with a 2010s monstrosity.

Who cares. Go to Campus Pizza instead. Most underrated joint on campus IMO.

Well, every other pre- and post-game spot is going to get 35% more crowded, so your underrated, hidden gem is about to become a madhouse. So I think you should care.

This really limits the pre-game hang outs. For many of us football will not be affected because of tailgating. Hockey and basketball on the other hand it will be near imposable to get a place to sit and have a meal and drink
before the game. I guess I will look for places that take reservation and those are few and far between. I know there is a need for more on campus living, but there are other locations to put up housing. Even when Sally's reopens it will not be the same. It will turn into more of a upscale restaurant and will not have that campus atmosphere. I hope I am wrong. I did enjoy going to Sally's and Stubs before hockey game.

Will miss it as part of my pre-game rotation, but the bright side is it means more trips to the Big Ten for their gigantic subs. Less eye candy at the Big Ten, but better food than Sally's

Check out the bar in the renovated Radisson (Common House?). Met some friends there for a drink a few months ago and it was pretty cool (good food, nice selection of beers, etc).

I think your math is off by 75%.

Good. Anyways it's just for one season...Not the end of the world.

I feel like this temporary closure of Sally's could have a positive affect on the tailgating atmosphere. Maybe push more people towards the lots rather than the bars before the game.

MN Daily: Sally's Saloon closed for a year
Sally's Saloon and Eatery closed Thursday to make way for a new apartment complex in Stadium Village. It will reopen next summer.

The layout of the new space isn’t finalized yet, but they want to keep it mostly the same, Diebold said.

“It will feel and look like Sally’s,” Diebold said, “but it won’t be the same Sally’s.”

Times change and places change. The Dinkytown I remember from the 70's is very different from the Dinkytown today. Stub & Herbs used to be a 3.2 bar with zero decor.

Proof that new, big, luxury apartments that come in don't cater to large chains. 7 games and it'll be open next year (along with a LRT to get you there). I think the hockey/basketball crowd will be fine given there are more places with food/booze now than there were 10+ years ago and we have the same number of seats in the arenas as we did. Does anyone opposed to this development not see the potential in co-locating a large mass of students within puking distance of the stadium?

Ya all oughta settle down. Come to Moorhead, take a left, and we meet at the Knickerbocker Liquor Locker.

A freikishg fiend like jike spingleton is not worthy...

of any request for the GOOD OLD DAYS or even for a good contrast thread. Let that jike take a hike with his much less than genuine request...

jike is most certainly NOT worth the effort... or the time based upon the way he presents himself...

random rant: but 3.2 bars only allowed in certain cities/certain parts of cities in the state. only terrible tasting 3.2 beer can be sold in grocery and convenience stores. no off-sale purchases can be made on sundays. just made me think: "what the hell is wrong with minnesota politicians when it comes to alcohol sales policies?". this state certainly has some dumb a$$, highly illogical, early 20th century alcohol laws still on the books.

a lot of these prohibition era laws still being on the books can also be blamed on the self-interest/monopoly protecting lobbyists and cronies working at the minnesota licensed beverage association & the minnesota municipal beverage association.
