Minnesota recruit - Ryan Santoso - has had mixed results in today's game. (Presently it is halftime.) He connected on a 44 yard
field goal for the white team. However, he's missed two field goals from the same distance. Appears to have a strong leg.

Game is on ESPN.

Go Gophers!!

He is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Maybe I missed the context flipping in and out of the game, but didn't the other team's coach (Here Edwards) come out and point out to Santoso that he was being watched by millions of people - and then Santoso missed the FG.

You're correct. The kick was at the end of the first half. Herman Edwards, the black team coach, had called a timeout to ice Santoso and then quickly called another timeout and Edwards then went into the white team backfield and pointed at the placekicker. His antics were supposed to be good natured and directed at the white team coach, Steve Mariucci, as well. (Those were the thoughts and remarks of the broadcast team.) Santoso then hooked the kicked and it went outside the uprights with plenty of distance.

They showed the replay of the missed kick that ended the half and then, again, at the start of second half.

Go Gophers!!

Herman Edwards, the black team coach...

Why are they the black team and the white team, anyway? One of those bight ideas we'll never hear the generation of, I guess

They replayed it later, and I watched some of it. The actual team names were "Nitro" and "Highlight". Under Armour tries to turn it into an X-games type of show. Damn near impossible to watch for more than 5 minutes. Super edgy, if-your-face camera work where they have the cameramen on the field, and you can't see a damn thing.

They were called "TeamBlack" and "TeamWhite". If you looked at the uniforms, you could see why.

What the hell do ya want, "TeamPink" and "TeamChartreuse"?

Actually "Nitro" and "Highlight" were the team names.

Either way, Santoso has a BIG leg. He was only 1 or 3 on FG's but all of them would have been good from over 60 yards...easily.

It would stand to reason given his size that leg strength probably is not going to be an issue for him. Of course if he can't get it through the uprights it doesn't really matter how far the ball travels in the process. He will certainly be interesting to watch when he gets on campus to see if he can get it done.

I wouldn't read too much into the 1 for 3 results one way or the other. Keep in mind that these "all star" games are pretty meaningless especially when it comes to the kicking game. You often have different rules for rushing/pressuring the kickers. The kickers are working with different centers and place holders many which have never snapped or held before on field goals. About the only thing you can conclude is that he is a big boy who can kick the he!! out of the ball.

That does not hold true for some GopherHolers who have a tendency to over analyze things.

I cheered for the Whites. I thought the Blacks were very strong and athletic, but they just didnt have the football smarts and IQ of the Whites.

looks to have a strong leg and just needs to work on some timing to get more consistent accuracy. hey....if blair walsh can figure it out after a rough senior year at georgia i am confident ryan santoso can too.

What's this kid supposed to figure out????

Wouldn't be shocked to see him redshirt, but I'm also not to sure that we have a serviceable kicker lined up for next year with wettstein graduating so he may be what we're relying on.

His made FG from the game.

That's from just shy of 45 yards. Dude can BOOM it. I believe they mentioned during the game that he played soccer until his senior year. Some good coaching, and setting up a routine will be great for Ryan.

Jeez...I keep watching this clip and think it would be good from over 65 yards.
