I tried transcribing during the press conference, so these are not exact quotes.
Tracy Claeys:
You muff a punt, it's unacceptable. Defense held them to a field goal. Drew's a great kid...We'll go back to work on it.
Rodney and Shannon Brooks have been awfully good for us.
They're going through the rebuilding process like we did. Their kids play hard...Disappointing to give up that big of a lead.
Running the QB as much as they did was a surprise...They did a nice job with their running game...It drains you.
We didn't handle that lead very well...I give [Rutgers] a lot of credit for coming back.
Damarius Travis:
We knew the QB could run the ball, and he could pass the ball.
We usually get off the field on third down...We have to figure out how we can get off the field on third-and-short.
I knew Emmit was going to hit it. He’s saved us a lot this season. We have a lot of confidence in him.
Mitch Leidner:
It’s been an interesting process [coming back after the concussion]. Lots of ups and downs.
I think anytime you’re sidelined with something, you want to get back at all costs. Concussions are unique. It’s not something you can play through.
They weren’t really doing anything on defense that we haven’t seen...Sometimes one team gets momentum, and the other doesn’t...We’re still happy with the win.
Rodney Smith:
We’ve definitely had great looks on kickoff returns...We got a great look today. They brought everybody to the left boundary...all I had to do was beat the kicker. I didn’t have to do much, he was blocked well.
On his kickoff return: I’m always the type of guy that tries to provide a spark.
We made some mistakes, had some drives stall. Coach got onto us at halftime even though we were up...The mistakes are what killed us, but we found a way to win.
Emmit Carpenter:
I had a ton of confidence in the offense to get down field and get a touchdown or get into field goal range.
I guess one of the big things I can attribute the success to is Ryan Santoso...Ryan’s done a real good job mentoring me in the first part of the season.
That was my first game-winning kick to date.
On missing a kick earlier in the game: We have a rule with specialist, we have a really short memory...I knew my name would get called again, and I’d have to respond.
